How come nobody talks about this great iOS synth?

Comments

  • I've had it on my wish list for a while now, but have never gotten around to buying it. Seems like it's not supported very well. Not a big fan of desktop ports that don't get attention needed. From what I understand though it's a great synth.

  • I find that while Z3TA, Nave and Thor are all quite amazing synths. I don't use them nearly as much as SynthMaster and others.

  • I dove in recently, it's pretty amazing. osc -> fm -> osc -> fm -> osc etc. etc.
I can't seem to do multi-touch on parameters though, like Osc warp + twist, anybody else?

  • If you have Z3ta 2 VST expansion packs, can you load them into the IOS version? I assume if it is possible it will be done by iTunes?

No multitouch drives me nuts. But there's also MIDI mapping for external controllers.

  • Sounds great, but, the very small UI can be hard to handle with old tired eyes...

But it's an Pro synth. One of the best in iOS...

  • Im still waiting for a sale , but tbh the lack of updates worries me

  • It's been on my wish list for ages, I too wish they would have a sale, I just need that little push!

  • Needs an update. Preset management needs improving, as well as multitouch. I think you can only currently install one preset at a time from outside the app using iTunes.

It sounds great though and you can save different midi learn configs too.

  • Got it recently. Huge amount of options, love the modulation possibilities. But the preset options are primitive and seem a bit broken. There's no save as. Go to save and in the save box the preset is always named 'preset'. So you need to type in the preset name to override it. Which is time consuming and somewhat futile as once saved the spaces between words are removed from the preset's name. Original preset "smelly socks" becomes "smellysocks". Maybe I broke it somehow when I transferred some free presets via Itunes as I haven't seen anyone else complain about the same issue. So despite its awesomeness I tend to go back to working with Thor, an app I find a lot more intuitive and works very well with MIDI Guitar 2. Z3ta allows you to easily create fantastic chaotic headache inducing sounds while mellow sounds come very easily in Thor.

  • Great app. One can for the most part share patches with the desktop version as well. Plus you can import your own samples to create new timbres. I've done a fair amount of playing around with that. Example below. I agree that the menu system could do with an update so that one does not have to cycle through options.

  • Yes, really impressive synth but with off puttinly small UI - too small for a regular iPad, maybe it's better on the big iPad.

  • It's a brill app. Just wish Roland would make more apps like this on IOS? Like Dimension Pro, or there classic sound cards(Vintage Synth, etc) from the JV series?

  • Fits great on my IPad Air not too small for even my large hands. Although I do not use the iPad zoom box option that is always another option for sausage fingered users.

  • I use it fine on a mini @firejan82

  • Fab Filter syndrome

Too Small Fidget Knobs Mini Adjustments Frustrating

  • Love the sound. Architecture takes a little getting used to. To take full advantage you need to use the mod matrix in my experience. Agree that it would be nice if gui elements could be made bigger but this is basically a full on port of vst version so very feature rich.

    I'm impressed.

When I played with it just now I run into a few things that looked like bugs. For example is there a difference between the left and the right halves of the mod matrix? When I routed an EG1 to cutoff on the left side it didn't do nothing but it works when I do it on the right.

Anyway, a lot to like in there, stuff that's unique to iOS synths, like all the wave shaping options, the resonance boost on filters and the speaker simulator to name a few. It's beast, that's for sure.

  • Left side of the mod matrix work for me OK @firejan82

  • Also needs folder management for user waves . I bought this to use with Galbanum Architecture collection of single cycle waves , for which it is amazing , but the single alphabetical list of >1000 filenames makes scrolling anywhere past A tiresome .

I keep meaning to use more , every time I open it I'm in awe at the synthesis power , but have yet to fully utilise. The mod matrix is deep , & having fx as mod destinations is something more synths should offer . But if I were to start programming in anger I think I'd start running out of mod slots quickly & would request another 16 .

I've never really understood why the 1>2 , 2>3 Osc internal routings for FM,AM are fixed but believe (?) this can be acheived more flexibly (i.e. any osc to any osc) in the mod matrix .
If so , this adds even more synth power but adds another reason for more modslots.

Finally in my note to self as to why I should be using this more , special mention to PolyAftertouch as a Mod source , with a greater polyphony & mod destinations than Animoog .

  • yeah I keep reading the UI is a real pain. And I'm on a mini screen so....it be a no go for me.

  • Paid full price and never looked back! Its that good. I've used it as my main synth replacing the motif.

  • Thanks, all!
