Question about multiple lightning jack uses.
List of equipment:
M-Audio Code 61 Keyboard (Midi and/or USB controller)
Roland Integra 7 sound module
iPad
Noisepad App
This is a hypothetical setup as I do not own the Integra 7 yet, but will be purchasing soon. I plan on sticking the Integra in a rack and managing patch changes etc. via the iPad editor app. (Wireless is an option but might be problematic in a live situation...). I would like to connect my iPad to the Integra using lightning to USB cable connection, cck etc. I also want to to trigger Noisepad in the same iPad with my Keyboard's drum pads which I've already midi mapped.
*How do I physically connect this being that the iPad has only one lightning jack? I will need to run my controller into my iPad to use apps but also have my iPad connected to the Integra. Do I need another device like the ICA4, or can this be achieved using midi ins and outs?
Comments
Use a hub plugged into a cck. i actually attach multiple midi controllers and a midi interface that connects to a 2nd ipad all connected to 1 CCk.
Thanks@gonekrazy3000. I may be over thinking this...I want my keyboard going into my iPad ( via usb). But my iPad info would be going 'out' and into the Integra module. Do hubs send info both into and out of the iPad?
Thanks
@mptrin basically any class compliant usb midi gear plugged into a hub shows up as midi sources and destinations in apps. for example both my keith macmillan K-boards, my novation remote Zero Sl (plus its own midi interface in/outs), and M-Audio - MIDISPORT 1x1 all show their input and output ports in thumbjam, modstep, step poly arp, gadget etc. all plugged into a single hub on 1 Cck. there isnt really a limited number of input and output streams so far in my testing.
P.s:- in case you're curious i use the midisport to connect to a 2nd ipad that has an iRig plugged in. i use my older ipad as a pure Modstep midi sequencer now.
Good to know my friend! Which hub are you using? Thanks Again.
What iPad are you using?
I picked up an anker USB 3 powered hub from Amazon this weekend just so I can have sufficient power for all the gadgets I plan to connect to the iPad Pro.
iPad 4
I'm using a generic powered hub from a company called IBall. I'm from India so we get a lot of cheap Crap that works surprisingly decent. Any good powered hub is a good bet. The midi sport and the kboards actually work even without extra power on my Ipad3 but it needs power when I plug in my remote zero.
Sounds Good! Going to try this all with my Novation Audiohub once I get the Integra. Thanks for the info.
Actually. the novation audiohub works pretty well.
Ios9 broke support for its hub working by itself but
using a cheap unpowered hub between the Audiohub
and the Cck you can use the powered ports on the Audiohub
with no issue.
I'm still on 8.4 I believe, so hopefully will still work unpowered, but I did see that thread about the unpowered hub solution. I think this will work well for my purposes. I'll eventually post some pics or a video once the new rig is up and running.
