Auria question - apologies in advance...
I'm considering buying Auria (not Pro, as I returned that a few weeks back due to the metering issue that has since been fixed, as well as finding the MIDI editing clumsy & Fabfilter plugin GUIs lacking optimisation for touch screens)....and am concerned that, should I suddenly discover I need, for example, more aux sends than the standard version allows and need to upgrade, that I'll be fleeced somewhat.
Unless it's some kind of mistake, the IAP upgrade from standard to Pro is listed as £29.99, bringing the price of buying the full version this way up to £49. Is there a reason for this? I'm loathe to pay £40 for the full version only because I don't intend to use many of the extra features but, as in the above example, I'd hate to suddenly need to and pay more than if I'd just bought Pro from the off.
Or is this actually a mistake and the upgrade price is different?
Comments
Auria = £18.99
Auria to Auria Pro IAP = £29.99
Auria Pro = £39.99
That's the market mate, buy what you think you'll need. If you've payed more in the end, then you probably haven't thought far ahead.
Personally I tend to record live instruments far more than MIDI, but even so the Pro features are worth it, simply because of the expanded mixing options that they offer, which I use all the time: more AUX sends, very flexible busses etc...
Also the MIDI editing is still improving, and if you have specific suggestions to make Rim is pretty receptive.
I guess the added aux and buss features are reason enough to opt for Pro from the off. I just hope the metering problem has truly been fixed. Can any users confirm this?
Also, although the MIDI features are a little flawed at the moment, and I think too much functionality is overkill for the current generation of devices, the capabilities of iOS music are getting better at such a rapid rate it's sort of like a future-proof investment.
What's the metering issue that you are referring to? There were a couple of metering bugs that were fixed in the latest update: sometimes the meters stopped displaying, which could be fixed by rotating the device, this bug has mostly been fixed though I have encountered it once since the update. Another issue was that the floating master meter wasn't available in the editor view, this has been fixed.
It would stop displaying after a minute or two. I didn't know about the rotate-the-device trick. Bit worried that it's still there.
I use Auria every day, I've seen the bug once in 2.04, and it's fixed by a quick rotate - it's not really worth holding off the purchase for such a small issue.
Also Rim is very proactive and updates Auria pretty regularly, so while there are still bugs (inevitably when such a complex app is written by one man), they will be fixed in time.
@sleepless I don't record anything live, apart from vocals, but can't imagine not having APro now. It's the marketplace in the middle of my town, all roads lead there...
And as far as audio goes, the audio warping function is worth the price of admission all in itself.
Even more because it gaves less artifacts than the algorythm used by ProTools.
A godsend for timing errors! Also super useful for making sure double-tracked vocals sync perfectly.
Audio warping... Is this an IAP, or does it come with the pro version?
It's part of Pro. Again, not something I'd use but probably worth having just in case.
Oh, you'll use it, unless your timing is immaculate every time you play. It's like drugs, once you latch onto it. Replay that phrase? Or just slide that note a half beat to the left? I think I'll just slide....
I'm using a hardware midi sequencer. If I was playing by hand I don't think even the best audio warping could save the mess
Anyone taken advantage of the ability to record in two different BPM feature? I have a song I recorded a while back, in two different projects, cuz of intro @144 and rest of the song @164. I haven's merged the two parts together yet, cuz I don't know how O'll do it smoothly. I could re-record and use the new feature. Anyone use it yet?
@High5denied not quite sure what you mean. I had a midi file I imported from Notion, that had an accelerando tempo increase in it. It worked fine in Auria, it created multiple tempo changes one after another to increase the speed. Worked like a charm. So, in theory, if you are just adding on song to the tail of another, it should work fine with the speed change.
K, thanks. I'm not quite sure what I mean either. lol....
@High5denied if you go to the Edit menu you will see an option named "tempo track", which will display the tempo track. You can add automation points there to vary the tempo or time signature.
If I get what you want to do... Starting an empty project, with 2 separate files for intro and rest of song? Auria Pro has a Tempo Track, accessed from the Edit menu in Edit mode. You can set the bars for the intro to 144-bpm and Import File at Start of Song, then set the bars after that to 164-bpm. Put the timeline cursor at the end of the intro and Import File with Import Position set to Current Timeline Position. The Tempo Track is edited with control points like other automation. It's worked for me.

Thanks for the info. I will try all your suggestions and hope for the best.
So.....Last night I tried to use Lyra with my newly acquired midi synth thingy. I have gotten it to work with all of the synths I've used so far, like SynthMaster, Z3TA, Nave Alchemy, Magellan.......
I can't figure out how to get it to work Lyra? Couldn't find anything in the manual that would help me?
How are you setting up the channel strip? What channels are you listening on? Do you have the input on the midi portion of the channel strip set to your device?
hmmm... I will have to investigate this.
You need to record enable the track. That catches everyone out.
