Thinking about buying an Octatrack to directly record from ipad

Anyone else using this combo.

I really want to ditch the computer.

  • Me me me! Here's a video I did using iKaossilator and the OT, would be exactly the same with the iPad though:

Great combo, really can't go wrong with the flexibility the OT provides. Happy to answer any questions you might have.

  • @Tarekith thanks man, nice video. Do you know if you can do synced recording, so you don't need to do all the manual chopping? Something like link to midi to sync the oktotrack to the iPad. Have you had any experience with live looping on the oktotrack.

The Octatrack doesn't do USB MIDI, but you can get a MIDI to USB adapter. Then you can MIDI OUT from the Octatrack and get it to clock, and even send notes/CCs to apps on the iPad using the OT's 8 MIDI tracks.

When it's clocking the iPad, you will be able to set up recording on the Octatrack to pattern length and quantised to the start of a pattern, and therefore be able to get perfect loops.

I'm sure I did this myself a while ago, but have changed my workflow to involve an iConnectAudio4+ and my Mac recently.

  • Michael nailed it. I use a cheapo 1x1 midi interface from Amazon, I think it cost $20 and works fine for this.
