I want to plug two USB devices into my iPad Air 2 - What do you recommend?
I have an Alesis V49 Keyboard. It plugs into my iPad Air 2 through the camera connector.
I also have the original nanoKONTROL which also plugs in through the camera connector.
They both work fine by themselves, but I would like to use them at the same time. I am also thinking of getting the nanoKONTROL 2, to run Auria Pro.
I saw a description of an inexpensive device like this on this forum, but when I clicked the link it went to Amazon, where one of the comments said it didn't work with the Air 2.
What do you suggest?
Neither of these devices have power cables. They run off of the iPad's power.

I would say most any powered USB hubs should work.
Literally any powered USB hub.
Has anyone actually tried in in practice? I’d be surprised if it “knew” how to bus arbitrate several usb nodes at once.
If you have access to a non-powered USB to test your rig, you can see if that works first. I have this small one- Belkin USB 2.0 4-Port Ultra-Mini Hub -from Amazon and I run it with a M-Audio Keystation 49es, Novation Launch Control, and an original Korg Nano Kontrol with no problems.
And wow, I just checked the price on that Belkin and I don't know where they came up with those prices. I only bought mine for $5. Something similar might work for you if you don't want to deal with a power supply.
That’s interesting that it can be done. I remember trying to connect a hub to my iPad once when I bought the camera connection kit, and it refused to see it and anything on it. I just assumed from that point onwards that an iPad could only see one device or node. Mind you, that was back on iOS 4.something, so there must have been improvements I wasn’t aware of since then.
@not_elvis No, my two non-powered USB hubs don't work. I have ordered the new USB camera kit from Apple. Maybe that will do the trick.
Just a word of warning regarding the Nanokontrol2 and Auria Pro. Last night I noticed that when I 'Solo' a midi track via the Nanokontrol2 and then 'unsolo' it (probably not an actual word but bear with me), I get a bunch of hanging notes. This was with 4 tracks of midi. Sounds awful and it happens EVERY time. Haven't tried it with audio only. I'm quite sure this wasn't happening before Rim fixed a bug regarding Mackie HUI control in the last update.
I have plugged in at least 4 devices at once into my powered usb hub. An Axiom 49, nanoKontrol 1, Quneo, and my audio interface. Works great, never had any issues.
I've plugged in 2 Keith Macmillan k-boards, an m-audio midi control X1, a novation remote zero sl. And an m-audio key station 88es. That's 5 devices. So 2 devices will definitely work. Mind you this is over a powered hub. If I unplug the mains power the max devices that work unpowered is just the 2 Keith Macmillan k-boards or 1 k-board and the midi control X1. More than that or even the remote zero sl by itself gives the too much power error and stops.
@AndyE Yeesh. I guess I will stick with my original nano until I hear more. It would be nice to have more knobs to control synths than the 4 I have on my alesis.
I have a cheap Sweex usb powered hub and it works with a nanokey and a Roland midi interface.
Two devices will work, but mine are both externally powered... I am using a non powered USB splitter plugged into CKK.
BeatStep pro and a MIDI controller...
Ha 'unsolo and gobacca @AndyE
Bought a cheap Amazon basics powered USB. With this and a new Apple powered USB camera connector, I can make nanoKONTROL Studio work with Auria. So I'm not sending it back, as I had planned to.
So I can plug in the Alesis V49, the original nanoKONTROL and the new nanoKONTROL studio at the same time.
I can run auria with the nanoKONTROL studio and it still leaves me 13 knobs for MIDI cc control of the fabfilters.
Thanks, everybody!
That's actually quite clever. I like it.
The above problem with hanging notes in Auria Pro only affects midi tracks. Audio tracks work fine.
@AndyE I don't have the nanoKONTROL 2. I guess I will find out if I have the same problem with the nanoKONTROL Studio. I didn't test out any actual recording before I decided to commit to buying the NS and downloading their free software package.
We shall see. If I do have this problem, hopefully Rim will fix it someday.
