Video Tutorial. Play nearly all your synths with an ordinary electric guitar and use with Audiobus

Great for guitarists this...play almost any of your synths with a guitar,,very fast responce and polyphonic..Midi Guitar has been around a while, but works really well with Audiobus...I'm using iRig for this..I have iRig HD but have not tried it yet..the program is free but the midi is an IAP..but worth it..you can also control your Mac or PC VST synths with it via wifi..and control your hardware too...good fun and very useful for guitarists..This is an iPad 4

  • I was playing with this last night and thinking I need to play with this more, since some of my first efforts with it weren't very successful, for some unknown reason. I got it dialed in quite well last night and had a blast.

  • Yeah it can be a bit odd, but mess about a bit and ot works well..I found it works best with pad sounds, and not playing too fast..I think it could be very useful for guitarists..but it is really good fun though making all these cool sounds with your guitar..

  • Awesome idea Doug! (I've been waiting for something like this) Thanks for the idea. This combined with the Ivoxel&Soundprism mindblower, I need to take a day to soak my head in a bucket of ice so I can cope! By the way, please hang up that sweater behind you, it's been effecting my sense of tidyness. No offense...

  • Haha fooled you all...you think they are cloths but its really the clever sounproofing....I may rename the channel....the sound test cloakroom....

  • Hi Doug
    Great video!
I notice that the pad sounds continued to play after you strummed until you changed patch in Alchemy. Is that because they have a particularly long release/effect or a lack of midi note off i.e. stuck notes?

I had a play with this a while back (controlling Thumbjam) and it was great fun but the latency meant it was not really useful for recording accompaniment to anything pre-recorded. It does seem to be much better on your iPad 4 though :)

  • I believe it was the latency that turned me off initially, and I had an iPad 2 previously. I'm now using an iPad 4, and when I played it the other day, the latency wasn't very noticeable. I did run into some distortion when I set the app to low latency, on the iPad 4, but the normal setting was quite useable.

  • Yeah the latency on the was a problem on the 2,very good on the 4 and usable, and yes had a couple of hung notes but not many, and they would unstick on the next chord strike..I think with things like this there will always be some problems...but if like me you bought the app ages ago and have now upgraded I think its worth a mess with...or get the free version and have a play with the awful free piano sound, if your getting a good signal and it plays OK it should work with other stuff
