Ielectribe cc on mod with pad is very useful for Hip hop morphing, faster knobs movement

  • edited April 2016

By the way, you guys can use midiSTEPs to set those pad notes number,

let midiSTEPs randomizing pad patterns to your desire tunes!

See my tutorial (App Tips and Tricks) on midiSTEPs with setup,

then just fill the notes on midiSTEPS, then record back to the Modstep scene. It must be fun! Haven't give it a try.

    Lets rock!

    1.
Setup empty steps of iElectribe iPhone version on factory A set 2 Transceiving, and press 'shift' on main theme. Clear the pattern on steps for all 8 instrument.

    1. Turn midiSTEPs and Modstep on, then setting midi setting and Ableton Link on iElectribe and Modstep

    3.
    On Modsetp 'io'

Tick 'all input' for midi in and iElectribe for midi out, all on channel 10

    4.
There are only 8 notes we use here for each of 8 instrument of iElectribe iPhone, which are C2, D2, E2, F2, F#2, A#2, C#3, D#2

    5.
We don't use drum pad, we use keyboard pad, see photo. Then fill all 16 grids color

    6.
Now, go to midiSTEPS, set everything indicated by 3 following photos, midiSTEPs mid out on ch10, midiSTEPs midi in on cha 10, and receiving clock from Modstep.
Then fill the midiSTEPs grids on one octave lower then Modstep for 8 of iElectribe instruments for mdiSTEPS Cyan theme, the order is important for these 8 notes to verify iElectribe lightbulb correctly presenting those 8 instrument, you can hear the sound pass through to ears.

    7.
Now press the copy button of pattern1 of cyan theme of midiSTEPs and paste on PINK theme, then there is random order button under the 'tools' button on top of PINK theme, then press that random order button, please, don't touch random fill button. Now you have different order for instrument sound on every steps. You try to listen, then go to green and grey themes to copy those 8 steps to make random order again and again.

Please make sure 4 theme all on midiSTEPs midi out on channel 10

    8.
After you fill your desire misSTEPs pattern, you now ready to press Modstep red recording button and A button for recording those patterns back to Modstep.

As seen here those grids have different patten randomized by midiSTEPs , this is very good way to have fun with iELectribe .

    9.
It is up to uou now to set up midi cc for iElectribe by reading online manual to check cc number for every knobs meaning. It looks complex, but it is not that complex. Because you do not have to tick iElectribe for setting the numbers, only the Modstep you need to set those number into to draw midi CC on mod by red and A button on.

    Well end now!

You have plenty of FX tool for it! Now you have it, and enjoy!

    Cheers

@soundklinik , thank you triggering me for this setup! :D now you have it!

  • Once your recording finish, you want to listen the recorded Modstep. When you press play, please, go back to stop midiSTEPs play button, now only the Modstep sound keep going on. That is how you work these 3 apps together.

  • edited April 2016

You can work those notes one by one with blank space on midiSTEPs in between the grid. So you randomize each of 8 instrument or themes slowly to work out patterns. You can layering patterns on Modstep grids by re-recording loops on different instrument of that particular iElectribe page instruments, so I think you will find interesting tunes for fun!

  • edited April 2016

Suppose that you have a fixed patten of 4 kicks on 16 steps, now go to pink theme to randomize snare drums on different grid, you can do that , then add more as you wish until you satisfied! Just a hint!

See how easy it is with so many possibilities on iElectribe sound modulations

D1 is snare drum, photo is D#1 here, so change to D1.

  • Ok people. Modstep Korg Gadget templates are in progress. already released 2 here:- https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/13332/modstep-midi-cc-templates-for-korg-gadgets#latest
Keep an eye on it since i will gradually make templates for all of them except Abu Dhabi and the module gadgets since i don't own them.

    More hints for pattern randomizer:

Making sure your pattern of each theme all are on 16 steps and LINKED together, so the steps timing for different instruments all sync on same steps ( of course, you can change them after your acquaintance. There is options button on midiSTEPs to change those functions. See 3 photos here.

  • Note: I am not saying StepPolyArp can not do randomizer! But this mdiSTEPs shine on drum patterns here! Very easy to change a thing, very efficient on finger touch!

  • Thanks very much for your tutorials, @Kaikoo2.

And welcome back -- you were missed!

I original thought if give you part 2 tutorial.

But I think these 3 photos explain a lot. Just follow the tutorial then separate each instrument on 8 tracks for each of 8 instruments. Randomizing each track for only one instrument on midiSTEPs, then recorded back to each of 8 tracks. So you can do systematic listening to make quality patterns on each instrument. You don't crowding up the tracks.

This technique can apply to different drum apps such as SeekBeats. SeekBeats can not do patterning itself to the grid on probability, so this method is good for it.

See photos to realize how I do naming the tracks name on note number to reflect what note to give number to randomize on midiSTEPs for 'random order' button on midiSTEPs.

  • edited April 2016

You can adjust random velocity on midiSTEPs, and seeing on Modstep velocity histogram changing on tracks, then stop the recording to register the velocity on Modstep by repeat the loop.

You only put iElectribe on track 1 IAA slot, the rest 7 tracks all on channel 10

You can muse and solo each midi tracks on Modstep, then delete part of clip window then chaining them according to your song preference. Rest of assuring you are ready for complexities.

Randomizer of midiSTEPs can follow real time Modstep tempo, so just adding how many notes you like to input to midiSTEPs sequencers on that particular instrument sound, so it is not all at your command but your drum melody soul will get you to the rhythm. You are part of that flow to make beautiful drum music!

    Cheers

  • Btw, You can do this method to Korg Gadget Abu Dhabi.

Well, I guess this iElectribe and Abu Dhabi can mix hell lots of it on modern music!

  • This is beyond me, but if I could bring some milk and cookies down to that bunker you're all working in I would...

I am doing fun with this method on iSpark. Running smoothly with iSpark too!

These 4 photos is how you set up for iSpark

  • Thank you Captain. I have an increasing photo album of Modstep screenshots....

iSpark has its own automation and notes transpose, those feature not given to you on Modstep sequencers. It has no midi cc learn for modstep too.

it is also difficult to let midiSTEPs to do 16 instruments of iSpark on Modstep.

iElectribe is different that you can have full fun to do music work on Modstep. So better sticking with iElectribe or SeekBeats.
