Navichord Update 2.04
A lot of new MIDI features.
MIDI input
- connect external keyboard and play
MIDI learn for pads, play and hold buttons
map your grid controllers or a part of keyboard to pads (hint - try using black keys for chords and whites for melody!)
MIDI channel split for chords
play several synths at once by sending chord voices to different outputs
MIDI support for IAA hosts
use keyboard in IAA hosts. You can also map chord pads to it, try it with AUM

I jump in when there is going to be a way to save sessions.
@Philippe , it is already possible to save chord sequences. Check out Navichord Lite, it's free and also supports saving (Settings/Pads/Save preset).

Well, that's a good start.![;) ;)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)
Next thing I guess is the loaded iaa intruments (or internal), bpm etc. At that price point, I expect the 10th of ableton Live intro features and capabilities
You're also a curmudgeon, but we still mostly love you.
Haha, I needed a dictionnary for this one. I plead guilty. Thanks for pointing it out @JohnnyGoodyear. And Thanks to dev first for answering. I should not ask a particular dev to give what I would have had if, instead of buying hundreds of apps that require an other in what have become a unstable half updated puzzle, I would have bought ableton Live suite for half the now pretty much wasted money.
@Philippe , thanks for your input and sorry about your bad experience with some apps.
Can you be more specific about missing features? There are already internal instruments and BPM control, so I guess the IAA host function is the only one I could put on the list from your post.
Hosting apps inside of Navichord would seem a little strange to me FWIW. Since there are so many good hosts out there already (DAWs, AUM, etc), it seems like Navichord is best suited to drive other apps that are hosted elsewhere.
No! Just 'midi clock in' to let other host apps midi clock out to Navichord chord progression for start/stop the pads! That is all my wish for it at the moment. just we communication problem.
Of course, there is latency adjustment (positive and negative milliseconds) needed to be implemented for clock if made.
that makes sense
Thought IAA host was already implemented. My mistake. In my previous message, I was only making a list of the things that I would like to see saved in a session. Does Navichord support AB state saving? It would allow it to be incorporated in a live setup.
What I mean is that I must be able to save and open a session with everything in it: chords, bpm/link status, loaded instruments, instruments parameters, midi routing etc. Otherwise I don't see myself say to other guys in the gig: Oh wait, I need to take 15 min to set and make sure everything is ready, again. That is what I meant by the 10th of what ableton live intro can deliver.
@Philippe I see what you mean. There is no state saving in Navichord.
@Navichord -- one possible error I've found is when using the Hold feature. As you switch from one chord to one immediately next to it, it keeps one of the notes in the old chord playing. If you then press on the new chord a second time, which cancels the currently selected, that old note still keeps playing. Usually I've found it is the note in the upper left hand corner of a triangle that keeps playing.
The solution is not to switch between chords by pressing the new chord, but instead press again to cancel the current chord and then press the new chord. A PITA but do-able I guess, either that or don't use the hold feature.
@fprintf this is normal behaviour, the grid will hold up to 4 notes max, if you play one triangle after another one note will stay. I'm planning to rework this to latch function, in that case a new triad will cancel the old one.
Hi, I love navichord. BUT, there's no clock in. I cant send midi clock to control its bpm. I have my master midi clock that sends clock to all apps and it would be awesome if navichord could get that clock.
Is that possible or any workaround?
Thanks
R
I think only LINk for now but your could try the app midi to link I thinking free
actually that's a great idea as Navichord as a host would be quite a bit more lean than a daw as a host.... this would be good for people interested in using the app live.
There is no MIDI sync at the moment. Apart from LINK to MIDI, you could MIDI-learn the play button and trigger it from your MIDI-device

Hey hey, bought this app recently and really love it. Number one feature request: instead of "mute out-of-scale notes", have the option to "lock all notes to scale", so that there are no "silent notes" when played on a MIDI keyboard. Overall, great stuff, and really appreciate the note-per-channel option for chords.
That's an interesting problem, for a machine, to pick which note to snap to. The wrong note is equally a half step off from two right notes. When you play a major third, in a minor key, did you mean to play the minor third, or the fourth? Probably a minor third, but what if you just played the minor third correctly, and were trying for the fourth? If you played the flatted fifth, did you mean to play the fourth or the fifth? I think our intuition as musicians, would be different than a simple algorithm, because it would depend heavily on context.
@Processaurus great thoughts. I think he means an option like Thumbjam's "lock white keys to scale".
You are so bitter sweet![:D :D](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/lol.png)
it just kills me sometimes
@Processaurus & @syrupcore
Thanks for your thoughts.
Using ThumbJam as an example, I'm imagining a version where "Input Scale Lock" is ON, but "White Keys Only (w/Scale Lock)" is OFF, meaning that there would actually be a "nearest note" calculation when you play a note outside the scale.
Which note should that be? Interesting dilemma. For me, in all honesty, I'm easily pleased, as long as it's not silence and it's within the scale.
Oops
Thanks for the idea, I will test it for the next version!
Awesome, thanks! :::)))
I LOVE THIS APP!
I love it so much I would like an iPhone version.
I can use my iPhone as a dedicated Navischord controller for the pads during performances and for noodling ideas when on the road and not using an Ipad.
I would like to see a built in looper in Navischord as well. That way don't need any other apps while coming up with ideas.
I would like to see a second layer sequencer. One to drive drums(AU) drums while I play notes/melodies/chords with Navischord.
@RustiK , thank you! I'm very glad you like the app.
Thanks for your suggestions. I already have a test version for iPhone, but it needs some adaptation as the screen is very small. I've noted your ideas, I will look at them once I finish what I've planned for this year.
