ModStep and Zilldrone tutorial

Saturday morning, cloudy, a nice day for another tutorial.

Great thing about MS (ModStep) is that you can load an app that has multiple midi channels and use each channel on a track.

Zillidron has 4 channels: ch.1-synth, ch2-noise synth, ch.3-noise synth no.2 and ch.10 Drums. (BD,HH,SNare) Notes C0, D0, F#0.
You have t them manually and enable MIDI in in Zilldrone by clicking Zilli icon.

MS is setup the usual way App in track 1 and 4 extra tracks created for each channel.

Drum pads setting:

Then I discovered an interesting thing.
Since I don't know the CCs in Zilli, I loaded all CCs by going into midi section click on "template " editor.
Then click on CCs icon and Autofill icon to fill up the space left and right with CCs.
Now run sequencer, enable A and record and click on "mod all" and start to record CCs... I know, without knowing what and which you record.

For best results I have Zillidron's clock running @60bpm but NO notes in any sequencer except drum, I put ONE note in each sequencer so it activates the randomiser in Zillidron. I also activated all inputs for FX etc. The 2 noiz synths can be played pitched and a variation can be set playing 5 snapshots on its own sequencer, but this is a tutorial about ModStep.
Sequences can be quickly copied and dragged across as many pads as you like to make longer patterns.
Edit/Copy/drag pattern. Easy. Have fun and tell me if I forgot anything or something you discovered. :)

  • Sorry I should have named all the tracks so it is easier to see.
Also there could be one less track, MIDI channel 1 is there twice, but I don't like to record into the one with Zilldrone. I use the tracks 2-5 for recording also for reason that don't like to click Home button to return. This way I don't leave ModStep.

Retired? I'll give you a virtual kick in the butt :D

No seriously, you gave me a lot of inspiration and Ideas, thought me how to make snapshots of screen etc. Some apps that you used in your tuts I don't have so I can't use them.

It's also to show people that it is really easy and fun to experiment...after all it is non-destructive software so you can't break it...and if it sounds bad delete it the track...and start over....

  • Waiting you Double Dagger crack CreamMobile to Modstep Tutorial :D

I don't really know what this means, but I think it sounds about right :) There are things I like about Zilli, but don't find it very friendly, but Cream is a terrific app (albeit I find myself still somewhere low down on the learning curve....).
