Medly 2.2 with Audiobus, IAA, and Ableton Link support
Download: https://itunes.apple.com/app/medly/id940268124
Today we are releasing Medly 2.2 with support for Audiobus, Inter-App Audio, and Ableton Link! It also has built-in upload to SoundCloud.
Medly is a music sequencer for iPhone and iPad that aims to let both seasoned and new musicians make epic music. It breaks up your song into sections that can be easily moved, deleted, copied, or linked together to make loops. You can also add and automate effects (highpass/lowpass, delay, and pitch shift).
Once you've made a song, you can export it as audio (compressed or raw) or MIDI, or as a Medly file that can be opened on another device and edited.
Medly is free to download with 12 instruments, and there are 80 more instruments across a variety of genres available to purchase.
We'd love to hear any feedback you have on the app! You can find out more at http://medlylabs.com/ and http://help.medlylabs.com/

I'd still like to see more scales.
And how about a paid medley pro version with AU/IAA hosting that would be cool.
We found having pentatonic + chromatic to be a good balance between simplicity for beginners and expressiveness for pros. Would having specific other scales be useful?
In regards to hosting, we would have to rethink some of the design but it's something we can take into consideration.
Thanks for the feedback!
I am bit troubled by the fact that you made a UI so close to Korg Gadget UI in this app...
When the app pictures on the itunes store page loaded after clicking the above linked, for a couple of seconds I asked myself "why am I on the Korg Gadget page?"... LOL
I downloaded this soon after its debut last year, ('cause it's free), but put it in the "it's okay, but needs Audiobus" category. Guess it's time to download again and give it a play.
@ElGregoLoco -- LOL, it seems like it is the same blue that Gadget uses; otherwise really I don't see much similarity.
Same blue background and same yellow lines... Lol...
Anyway, I don't care as I love this look... and what counts is if the app is good...
did not try it before for the same reasons as you, will give it a new try I guess
The yellow lines are just for 1 track, each one of the 8 tracks has its own unique color. We just picked the yellow for the screenshot because it has the greatest contrast, and best color match. As for the blue gradient, I will admit they do look similar, but it was me re of a happy accident. We actually constantly iterated on it, and eventually ended up with that color scheme (third image has mock ups of different gradients https://medium.com/@baldajan/the-pursuit-to-make-everyone-a-musician-3f5fb659ba24#.eip4vwffp)
Glad to see ongoing development here.
OK. As has been mentioned elsewhere, this has now eaten Auxy's lunch for me. Adding AB and IAA, along with link, propels this into a seriously fun player. Being able to run all kinds of stuff onto the noise is a huge step forward. Real possibilities for me now here....
Ok ok... Back for more (and not for colors)...
Can you explain me what this app can do ?
I tried it and it seems to me that it is limited to playing the internal instruments in loops (which are GM level in my opinion, not realistic enough for me) and potentially sending the resulting mix to other logs via AB, AC or IAA (but this is not useful for me currently as I do not like the internal sounds in the app)...
Am I getting it right (and this nice looking app is not for me, not fitting in my workflow) or is it possible to use the app to control other midi apps ? Or to make your own instruments ?
Please explain me what is the goal of this app (how you intended it to be used when you designed it).
@ElGregoLoco -- I won't try and answer for the developer but for my use its for the MIDI file out feature. I think the included free sounds are okay and the others...well, they are okay I guess. I did buy one pack because it's a free app and the developer's gotta eat. But it's a fun environment to create in, and once I get a tune down, I can export the MIDI into Cubasis and then get the sounds that I really want.
What @TozBourne said, but I work in Auria Pro with the resulting MIDI file.
A feature requst though: MIDI out would be nice, so I could wite MIDI and automations directly in Auria's piano roll, for example, or control other apps. Dk you have plans to include MIDI out in the foreseeable future, @baldajan?
This.
And actually the sounds can now be goosed quite somewhat via AIM/AB/whatever to get past the 'caustic effect'. But Toz is right. This is a place that's super easy to write melodies or basslines in, especially as regards two or three different contrasting patterns at the same time and then use the midi file thereafter.
Not for everyone, won't have enough esoterica for everyone, but -for me- it's a sweet-spot job-doer and I've come to value that more than ever...
I didn't check that you could export midi files... this rocks.
I will definitly use this app I think... cool
Thanks a lot for your answers ;-)
We were actually thinking of adding support just before we launched Medly 2.2, glad to know that there is interest. We may not get it out in the next major update, but we'll try our best![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
Good to hear and really enjoying this update....
