I- dock 2 and nano-kontrol
Hi, is the usb port on the alesis -idock 2 midi in? I want to use nano control and this dock at same time. Possible? thx
Comments
@oceansinspace - assume you mean the IoDock 2 from Alesis.
No. It is only to connect to a PC. It is not a USB host. You would need a piece of hardware that takes USB Midi IN and has 5pin (DIN) Midi OUT. All of the converters I've seen convert 5pin (DIN) midi to USB midi and require it be connected to a USB host. Like an M-Audio uno or midisport. Perhaps you could connect both (5pin/USB midi and nano control ) to a powered Hub, but I'm fairly sure it won't work, It's the PC or CCK USB connection that provides the USB host function.

Quickstart Guide
Just to clarify, I have the ioDock (1), but as far as I know and as far as the manual is the same on this connection it does not function as a USB host ( the hint is that it is a USB Type B connection).
From the manual (#6):
Yeah I have io dock 2 and it is USB b and needs a host to run its USB
yea i thank y'all. I was just hoping. That hack looks easy too, hmmm. Nice

For the price of the Kenton you'd be better off with a whole new audio/midi interface.

Slightly less expensive and works if you have an iPad 3 /iPhone 4S+ or newer is the Puc+ (Bluetooth LE)

Wow , I actually have that EIE! The usb from the i dock is going into the EIE. The three usb ports on the EIE have been confusing.
I can poser stuff for sure, and route a lil. I don't think I can send usb nano control from EIE to I dock tho? That would be sick@
@oceansinspace - It might work. For example, connecting the iodock to a PC USB port and connecting the nano control to a PC USB port, using something like MidiOX you could route the nano control to the iodock, but that's kind of a kludge just to use the nano control.
that´s true. but the kenton is small...
