Does Nanostudio not do refinements? How disappointing...

Can you record into a track in nanostudio? I was under the impression you couldn't. That would disqualify it from a daw I would consider using. Maybe I've just misunderstood that.
You can't record audio...just midi, which is still a shortcoming. Auria is just the opposite...analog but no midi.
You can record midi in. You can record up to 190 secs of audio per synth patch or the same in each of the 16 drum pads on Trg and trigger each pad for phrases, arps recorded etc. I prefer to multi sample the synths and play back and sequence without the CPU overhead of using multiple apps.
Also with Audiobus you are limited to 3 inputs whereby if you sample the elements you could have 10+ different iOS synths sounds all sequenced, arranged and edited together via the sequencer.
On top of all that the UI is a dream to use.
If you want multitrack recording forget it but If you want to work purely in iOS using your own sounds & samples then this IMHO is the all rounder that gets my ideas down and with the least hassle eg: no CPU/memory issues, a great mixer, synth, sampler, time stretch for loops (kind of!), all the sounds from my apps Alchemy, Sampletank etc...
I have Cubasis, BM2, Auria etc...the closest is probably BM2 but IMHO Nanostudio beats it for its UI, its synth, its file system and effects.
I suppose its very simple for me to get the results I want with Nanostudio, but may be that's a reflection on me

File systems aren't sexy but damn I appreciate NanoStudio's. One bummer, besides audio tracks, is that Eden is mono only. Works fine for most samples but sometimes it'll kill a sound's magic. And while you can indeed sample 190 seconds of sound, you can't access the middle of that sound on playback - you always have to back up to before your sample in the timeline. Works but, um, yeah not really.
That said, I'm with you. NanoStudio is still my most productive (and favorite) app by a mile.
This is a really interesting thread...at the moment..and things always change here...I still find Cubasis the best for my particular workflow..however Auria does have those amazing effects, but is very CPU hungry, and is not the simplest thing to set up, so what I do at this time is record what I want to effect in Auria and paste it back into Cubasis..I must say that I have not had the undo problem yet..but I would suggest that before anyone undoes anything save a snapshot..so at least you could go back and delete and redo instead of undoing...anyway I'm sure in time that Steinberg will fix this and do seem to be making a great effort to improve their DAW on a very regular basis....as for Auria as a DAW it seems geared more towards an engineer than a musician..Iv'e done a few things with BM2 but not much...Nanostudio I love, mainly because of Eden, but not being able to record Audio as a track kind of takes away DAW status..so to sum up my thing I find it best to use everything to achieve the result I want..
I have to say, I have been impressed by the standard of some of the Nanostudio productions I've heard.
@PaulB just the last track Dawnriser but it was by far the most painless. Its the first track I've made with Nanostudio and the first track I have made on IOS from start to finish in one session which has brought back the pleasure of making music again away from Ableton Live (although I am planning to put Dawnriser through its paces in Auria and all the Fabfilter goodness!).
I have tried to love BM2 because its so feature rich but I end up spending hours on midi connection setups/fiddling with the UI and filebrowser etc..Auria & Multitrack have no midi, Cubasis has been bitter sweet as I have lost about 60% of the tracks I have done on IOS.
@syrupcore I agree its far from ideal I used x delay and chorus to get a stereo effect
@thesoundtestroom If Cubasis introduces a sampler and drum sampler on par with BM2 in the next update Nanostudio will probably be redundant for me
Everyone works and produces differently so I cannot knock anyone else or any other app for the way I don't like to work that would be just crazy !
Still finding my feet with IOS to be honest.
Sounds like you've tried every DAW except Meteor.
Yeah @mgmg4871 mentioned that one, I have heard the UI is hard work though on here somewhere which put me off. Still looking for the ultimate solution but have yet to find it ;(
I still think we are 12 months off yet in terms of an all round functionality comparable to laptops.
To be honest I never bought my ipad to produce I was quite happy with Ableton live but then Audiobus came along and absorbed my money and my time with the romance of the IOS touchscreen super portable production solution!
Meteor is very similar in approach to a standard desktop DAW, a bit like Cubasis but with more features.
This video gives an overview of recent new features, but also gives a feel for how the interface works.
Thanks @paulb reminded me of bs-16i in terms of the look. It has a sampler aswell Hmmmmmm........not sure it will be about £30 to get the functionality I want. Maybe when I get paid next

@crabman have you had any other issues with Cubasis crashing since your post above ?
Nope,i don't.But i had no time for music the last days.Have to say that i made really a lot of music (always in audiobus mode)with cubasis last week and the disappeared files crash happened just once (was just one crash at all).But still...once is one time too much imo.
