Would someone please walk me through recording Fugue Machine MIDI into ModStep?
I am still digging into ModStep. Would love help on this.
Comments
Hey, open fugue machine, go into settings, midi to = fm midi out, output channels = 1,2,3,4.
In modstep, add 3 tracks, add clips, arm & set chase & tap play on all four tracks, open the IO to select 'fm midi out' as input, and 1-4 respectively for channel nr. Tap record in modstep and play in Fugue Machine.
Made an ab preset w/ fugue machine playing thumbjam, but it won't bring over the saved project from modstep.
Hope that's what you meant, @johnfromberkeley , greetings, crs
Dont forget to enable ableton link on both apps so that fugue machine will start sending midi at the start of the phrase. but yes. this setup should work perfectly. I'd suggest you enable all 16 bars on each of the tracks so that you will get a ton of good midi. you can always crop it to the specific bars you want by just disabling the wrong bars later after recording.
While being at it, @gonekrazy3000 , what would be your setup for recording cream mobile arp plus external keyboard? (No hurry, pls ) Thanks (;
Ok. little bit of midi juggling. I'm assuming cream has its own input and output ports here. (i dont own cream but steppolyarp has this ability.)
Create a track. make its input port be you keyboard.
output to creams input port. make another track.
make its input be creams output port.
arm both tracks. record.
In theory you should then have both the unappregiated midi
and the appregiated midi on both tracks.
I've actually done a more complex route and it worked so im pretty confident lol. my default setup is keyboard->thumbjam(for scale lock)->Modstep->step poly arp->modstep.
For thumbjam i enabled midi thru and transposed the output channels to start from 3+. what this means is my two Kboards that are channels 1 and 2 output scale locked midi in channels 3 and 4 from thumbjam. other routings i do is sometimes have 1 Kboard send to step poly arp directly and 1 to modstep so that i can play normally and do appregios at the same time. my Kboards have the ability to toggle keys so you can keep apreggios running while playing on the other one
I hope I am not correcting the procedures here on how to properly record midi data back from Fugue Machine.
I want to be friend to you all. If I pick an important mistake on advising. You will think I try to outsmart you guys.
Well, practice more, good on you all.
Will shut my mouth, please do more for all your own good! no argue, no orally fighting.
good night, CC guru and all.
I'm still a noob myself so i welcome any advice
don't worry about offending me or anything. i wont take offense that easily lol.
@Kaikoo2 Wait, so you basically are saying that we're crazies?
@crzycrs
Ok. tested my theory. it works
exact chain i used is here:-
k-board===>Kboard port channel 1====>Thumbjam(scale lock, midi thru and out to channel3)====>thumbjam port Channel3====>modstep====>modstep port channel1===>Step Poly Arp===>modstep port channel 2====>Modstep====>Tera Synth Port Channel 16====>Tera Synth.
end result midi both pre and post appregiator recorded.
Theres a video here:-
Albeit in potato quality shot with my phone. since my net is kinda messed up its apparently going to take 47 mins to upload a 1:30 min file. anyways..... 2:38 am here gonna crash. just check the video link in like an hr. goodnight peeps.
EDIT:- one addendum i'd make to the method described above is also make sure the recording tracks have loop set to once otherwise they will overdub when they reach the end of the 16 bars.
I understand, friend- last time I advised on midi with Modstep (and Elastic Drums), the next ED (next day!) update made my advice useless
Need my help to write a proper single channel setup tutorial on a new thread? Or on this thread? For the record? Or complex 4 channels?
I guess a single channel is more important to understand how it works? Looks easy but it is not!
Or just leave it?
If you really want, name your synth app to me! Or Animoog for it!
Yes, Captain @Kaikoo2 my captain! Please. A new thread, a fresh start (Fugue Machine driving Model 15)
It requires energy to write it up.
On new thread for Tip and trick? Or here?
Best to ask @johnfromberkeley imho.
And what app for it!
Animoog? It is clear for everyone by using Animoog. One channel track would be better to explain a thing. 4 channels will be troublesome for some people.
Good idea, btw, http://mobilemusic.wikia.com/wiki/Modstep
Thx @johnfromberkeley
