Using blocs wave as a groove box

I was doing some messing about and it occurred to me that with the slicer in blocs wave it is now possible to use it as a groove box.

Here's How

Create a sample with 8 individual hits of your drum sounds, make sure that the samples are equally spaced into 8 equal parts so that the slicer when zoomed fully out will end up with 8 sounds, one in each slice

Now create a sample of your bass sound, 8 notes, 1 for each note in your desired scale, again equally spaced to make sure the notes end up in each of the 8 slices when zoomed out.

You can now use the slicer play/record your drum beat and bassline.

If you want more than 1 drum sound at a time you can add your drums to more pads. Similarly if you want a polyphonic synth add your synth sample to more than one pad (playing this could be difficult though)
For fixed chords simply record the 8 chords corresponding to your scale, again equally spaced, and add that to a pad.

  • Yep I'm already doing this. The live playing features of Blocs is not obvious straight away.

As a handy hint for those importing strings of drum samples in, make one of them a blank space. This is so handy for putting a space between drum sequences, of which you can make four small sequences to trigger between playing the pads separately. Yes, it means you lose one drum pad, but worth it.

Also sequences can be recorded in step time when not in play mode. If you record your drum hits in with more hits in each beat, you can then zoom in to fit in more pads. Record in different zooms to create gated effects and make use of the blank space.

  • Using the tail of drum hits between drum hits can make interesting sequences.

Copying one bloc to another and using slip can make interesting fx - lower volume on one or even make reverse sequences - shame no pan as this could be interesting with dueling sequences

This thing gets better and better.

Why in your pic are you trying to listen to the sea in a pink dildo ? :|

Ah, Mr Plankton and Mr Fruitbat firing on all cylinders this morning. Good tips both.

...and yes, Mr Fruitbat, is that a dildophone upside your head? :)

Too many ideas, too many things I wanna do, not enough time to do them all. It could be worse....I could be bored :)
