There's no sample and hold module in the M15, although there's a nice imitation using the arpeggiator and LFO in the FX preset MOOGEVIL9.

Here's a fake sample/hold patch I did a while ago...hey, maybe it will inspire someone to come up with a better one! ;)

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/jk8tb05bpvdm2ff/FAUX SAMPLE AND HOLD.m15p?dl=0

    However...
If you've got the excellent MidiLFOs app, it has up to four sample and holds that you can route as CCs via Midi to just about any destination you want on the modular. It has other waveshapes as well, and lots of cool intermodulation capabilities. It's a great addition to the M15.

Thank you for ALL your contributions @Audiohub :)
    ...and the hints ;)

  • @Audiohub said:
I've struggled with that too, although I got it working mysteriously after fumbling around a bit. I think I downloaded the files to my dropbox account, and then was able to open them in M15. I'm still not quite sure how I got it to work, but it did, eventually.

Do you have a dropbox account, and the dropbox app installed and open on your IPad?
That seems to be the prerequisite.
That, and patience, and a LOT of fumbling around. :D
Look for the icon at the top, a page with an arrow pointing up...press that, and if you're lucky you should see an "open in" button. Press that, and one of the choices should be the M15. Supposedly.

Anybody wanna do a nice tutorial about this? It would sure be appreciated!!!

Not a tutorial, but it works for me to:
Open the link in a new Safari tab, tap Download, long press Direct Download, tap Copy, open File Browser app, tap menu icon, tap Download from URL. Tap feet while wait for file to download. Tap on the file, tap on Open In, tap on Copy to Model 15. I guess other file browsers can do similar.

  • wow audiohub thanks! you are greatly advancing my understanding but it is going to take me a bit to figure that all out. almost afraid to ask but could you explain why velocity->11k low pass->tiny amp makes the control for the attenuverter? i would not have thought of putting control signals into audio nodes which evidentally performs the velocity loudness scaling... but i guess this is modular town. super cool!

btw have you been using the audiobridge with any success?

    No problem, and great question!

I'm running the velocity through the lowpass filter to "slow down" the velocity changes a bit first. I found that especially when I was playing higher notes I could hear a "thumping" sound when I would retrigger the same note at different velocities. By running the velocity signal through the LPF first and setting it to a low frequency (11 hz) I found that it slowed down and filtered off much of the sharp-edged changes that were causing the "thumping". You can check this out for yourself by playing a higher note repeatedly at different velocity levels and adjusting the LPF control...it will thump more at higher settings.

The control knob on the VCRA sets the lowest level a key will make when pressed softly. If you set the knob to 0, no sound comes out...not too useful, generally you turn it up a bit so some low level will happen. The higher you set it, the higher the lowest level will be.
The filtered velocity signal coming from the Amp beside it sets the highest level produced when a key is hit hard (big velocity signal). For the widest range, you would repeatedly strike the key hard, and adjust the amp control until the note JUST stops getting louder.
Between these two settings, you can scale the velocity however suits you.
Now, if you keep turning the Amp gain up, you will hit the highest level more quickly...so here, you are changing the "curve" of the velocity to suit your playing style...now a medium key press will get you to full volume.

    Hope this helps!

Oh, and no, I haven't gotten around to using the audiobridge feature yet. Looks interesting, though...

    Hi John2353 (and Dchild)!

There's no sample and hold module in the M15, which is a specialized piece of hardware.
With the various modules that are available in the system, I don't see any way to make a real, functioning sample and hold, either (but I'm hoping that someone can prove me wrong, of course!).

The Moogevil 9 patch mentioned above uses the arpeggiator to play a series of notes and the LFO to slowly sweep the filter which is set with a high resonance to accentuate them. The oscillators are not connected to the keyboard out because they would then follow the arpeggiation as well, spoiling the effect.

Now, a crafty programmer with access to some gear could possibly convert an external keyboard CV to a CC, bring it in through one of the CV ports, scale it properly and use it to drive the oscillators separately so they wouldn't just follow the "sample and hold" effect. This would require a fair amount of effort and planning on the the programmers part and some sort of translator like an MPU 101 or the like, but It could probably be done (OR you could use the MidiLFOs app I mentioned in a reply above which is fairly cheap and works really well).

There has been some mention of some more future modules to fill those mysterious blank spaces at the bottom of the M15, and perhaps a true Sample and Hold module might be a good one, given the interest here.

And don't forget that there are already a number of apps that really extend the capability of the M15, like midiSequencer (awesome), R960seq (of course), Rubycon (perfect for TD style ratcheting sequences), and tons of others. With these, you of course lose the convenience of a completely self-contained patch that you can just call up, but that was never a part of the modular experience anyway.

  • I don't know even where to start but It sure would be nice to create a patch similar to this with Model 15 :)

"The Moog Fart Machine!" made with Mother-32.

  • My Grandmother can emulate that sound when she's walking to the loo..... :)

  • Hope it's ok, & downloaded?.......

    Lol ;) Your Welcome.

  • I wanted to pass on some very nice patches I came across. Kudos to Fabio. Added these to my favorite Psychotropic Synthesis set from Dan.

Moog Model 15 BASICS & CLASSICS: 64 free synth patches
    by Fabio Ribeiro

    Published on Jul 3, 2016
The brazilian keyboard player, musical producer and sound synthesis instructor Fabio Ribeiro (Remove Silence) created the BASICS & CLASSICS collection, bringing 64 patches for the Moog Model 15 app for iPad and iPhone.

This free collection presents classic and famous synth sounds created using only the original features of the classic Moog Model 15 analog modular synth, without the new features of the app or delay.

In addition to demonstrating the versatility of the original synthesizer, the purpose of these patches, mostly, is didactic, illustrating how sounds of different classes can be created through subtractive synthesis in a modular synthesizer. Also included are some classic patches from keyboard players and bands like Rick Wakeman, Yes, Triumvirat, Rush, OMD, The Prodigy, Camel, Uriah Heep, etc.

  • Hello!

Sorry for making another topic about this when the first version of the collection was released, I missed this one. :)

So, the collection was updated, now with 100 patches. Hope you like it!

    Thank you for the support!

Just a friendly bump for new Model 15 owners.

  • Thank you for this. I kind of feel like I'm not worthy of the synth, but at $15!? How can I say no? And it is baffling, but in a beautiful way. And the sound is wonderful. Sound for sound's sake.

  • Many thanks!

    AIR2
    Latest ios
    Last beta of MODEL 15
    What preferences?
I don''t recall buffer. What ever factory setting is I am sure.

What do you recommend I do?

go to ipad settings, once your in the setting scoll down until you see the model 15 app, click on the model 15 app, youll see the preferred audio buffer size, adjust the preferred.

next open model 15, in model 15 click on settings, to the left click on the configuration tab.
in the configuration tab, click on minimal ios signal processing & turn on eco mode, when you turn them on their boxes will turn white telling your they are now enabled.

You should be good to go..

    Thanks

It wierd never had an issue. I actually released a preset bank.

I feel like that oce it optomized for AB3 tjos started. I don't anything else that changed with the app. I bought it day 1.

Nice, where can your preset bank be found?

  • to user Audiohub, the preset bank you shared is no longer working. Would you mind uploading your model 15 bank again, thanks. And if anyone else has made any patches they're willing to share, that would great.

  • Was there an Audiobus forum bank for Model 15?
