JX-8P VST

Just curious if anyone has tried this....

I have a soft spot for the 8P, as that was the only synth I've ever owned.

  • I do too, or should I say the Roland JX 10 Super, which is basically 2x JX8p

  • Yes, been using the beta for a while; just grabbed the final 2.0 release a couple of days ago. Nice string sounds.

  • I'll be giving it a go soon, it's been a good freebie - donationware, for some time, it's just been made 64bit, it lacks presets but a few exist on the web for it, plus, I believe it can load the original jx patches, so that should give you a few more.

why not just try it instead? its free after all. and quite good too. check kvraudio for presets if you want them, i remember seeing a bunch of them in there.

  • I grabbed it. Can't seem to get the standalone version to respond to my midi controller on Mac.

I'm not a very trusting sort....I wanted to see if anyone had it to make sure I wasn't stepping into a virus trap. Seems safe enough, so I'll probably try it later today (after work.)

  • I only played with it for a little bit but it sounds and looks nice enough if not great, never owned the hardware but I'd buy this if it was a reasonably priced app.

  • Appreciate all the feedback folks. I'm sure there's a lot out there that is better, but there's the nostalgia side of it for me.

  • It's just been updated to version 2 so it may be a little buggy.

  • The v2.0 release seems more stable than the beta I was previously using. Think it's pretty solid.

  • No AU by the looks of it.... No worries, I hve the real thing and the iPad controller app. :)

  • This is THE emulation!! I've used this for a couple of years now, and it is so good that I'm getting rid of my JX-8P. I don't need it anymore. :-) I can't recommend this app highly enough!! And it's FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Got it, but I don't have a DAW that supports VSTs or a midi controller for the stand alone app. I'll have to bring toys to the office tomorrow!

Do you own Gadget or iKaosillator? Ableton Lite licence comes with both of those I think.

  • I own both, but the JX-8p software is desktop only (I'm on a Mac), and I only have GarageBand and Mainstage installed. Both of those are AU only. I imagine you're talking about midi from my iOS device to my Mac though. I could give that a try....when the boss (my wife) isn't watching!

I'm not sure I understand. By JX-8p software you mean the VST from the link at the top of this thread? There I see a link to what seems to be a Mac version of the VST installer which Ableton could run. But I did test it on a Windows laptop so I'm not 100% sure.

shop.cfa-sound.com/products/super-7-supersaw-vst/ supersaw is another somewhat kinda related synth to jx-8p i suppose. its a very simple one. single oscillator, no waveforms to choose... just give the page a look and see!

    but windows only though :(

  • Yes @firejan82 , that's what I'm referring to. I don't have Ableton on this machine though.

  • mac vst works fine in ableton, sounds rather terrific, no glitching, and seems to use a very small amount of cpu considering... amazing something like this can be had for free! thanks for pointing this out!

  • So why not install the Lite version that comes with Gadget?

  • I'm at work and need to limit non-work related apps. I probably shouldn't have Mainstage on it even.

  • hmm, I see

  • Can I have an iOS-AUi version please? :D

AU version is in the works, after bug fixes for the new version release, AU-iOS would be nice though.

  • I did finally get Ableton Lite installed and it works great. Nice trip back in time! Agreed that an iOS version would be great!
