Its not about making money but......(Edited)

I have been playing guitar, mostly acoustic, for 18 years. I don't have any illusions of grandeur of making it famous or anything. Besides playing live in clubs, restaurants, bars, etc. in which I do not do or really have the desire to do. Our church has live worship going 24 hours a day 7 days a week, so if I play live anywhere its there.

Does anybody make any sort of cash flow with their music or sound design? Be it, selling sound packs, songs, loops, writing, blogging, etc?

Just kind of wondering and thought this might be an interesting topic on this forum. I know the music industry is changing and there are more opportunities to make a few bucks here or there. Not that I am into music, sound design and stuff to make money but extra cash is always welcome.

Maybe I should ask, if there is a certain musical or sound design need that needs to be fulfilled? Do we need more presets in synth apps? Obviously there are some need or desire for non EDM, electronica loop packs for apps like RemixLive. Anything else? Do we need more iOS articles and tutorial videos?

One thing that has been talked about recently here https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/13602/cinematic-film-soundtrack-stuff/p1
is the use of iOS for movie sound tracks and effects. I have always thought that some of the apps are perfect for sound effect creation, soundscapes, even recording your own foley sounds.

  • I don't make any money with music, but for me it's really just a hobby, so I don't care. But, as a music lover and consumer, I'm intrigued by your second set of questions.

I don't buy much music anymore. I buy lots of apps, and occasionally a piece of hardware.

But I listen to all kinds of music, all the time--and I have been wishing, especially of late, for something .... not sure how to describe it. I had been loving the proliferation of technology that made it so easy to instantly access just about any kind of music.

Lately, though, I feel a bit stuck in a rut. Even stuff I've never heard before is starting to sound-- well, like I've heard it before.

All of which, I suppose, is just me wondering where the very best new music is--surely it's out there somewhere, floating like an unmoored buoy in the middle of the sea of undifferentiated online content--and how I find it?

Figure out how to sell that to me and you've got a customer. And probably a zillion others.
