  • Awesome! Just got this app and it actually worked!!! Lol that's exciting when you've been struggling with MusicIO for months.

Sad that that's the bar, but I agree; great app!

  • I see the Studiomux bundle is on sale but can't see that it offers anything Studiomux doesn't do by itself. Can anyone point me to the advantages of owning midimux too?

  • Midimux works on older devices (iOS 5+).
Also it uses less CPU on your host computer if you're just using it for MIDI.

  • it would be neat if studiomux had a test mode where you could temporarily directly connect an input to an output in order to measure latency.

  • It would be awesome beyond compare if studiomux and Aum could be smushed into one.

Technically this can be easily achieved. Just have aum->audiobus-> studiomux. Using busses from aum into multi out audiobus you can technically do a lot more than 8 tracks. But even 8 is plenty.

I do this all the time to use multiple ipad/iphone instruments and fx on independent channels in ableton live. Works quite well. I saved session templates in AUM, Studiomux and Live to minimise the setup time. Note that to record audio in ableton Live coming from studiomux plugin, you have to send audio from the plugin channel to a second one from which you record the fist one. I don't exactly understand why, but the studiomux website explains it and it works.

  • With this update though, Studiomux brought some AUM functionalities such as keyboard, AU, and unlimited fx chain that might made me consider going 100% studiomux. AUM has still an edge though with multiple AU windows, midi routing grid, recording capabilities, filters, file players.
    Nice update and app overall.

One thing I have to say though: it took me a while to figure how to access instrument and fx browser. I figured, but still I think that a box with a + is not the most intuitive way to access them.
Also, just like MODSTEP (same dev), there is no way to close an AU directly, which could be a good thing to add.

But again, really good and useful app. Thanks!

  • phillipe, did you know that studiomux can be used without plugins? the app creates an audio interface which you can use directly. much cleaner setup!

With Mac DAWs such as Ableton Live, with different and independent channels?
    Didn't know. How?

  • assuming the studiomux app is running ok, go in ableton prefs, go to audio tab, your ios device should show up as an audio device.

note, channels 1 and 2 from the interface are actually a stereo mix, for some reason, of all channels from ios. the channel you set up on the ios device in channel 1 actually shows up on 3/4...

now you can create an audio track and choose 3/4 (levels should be jumping) as the input channel, then click the rec arm button and you should be hearing the audio from ios channel 1.

next we have to figure out latency, let me know when you get this far

Any way to have this setup and also another usb audio interface input at the same time?

  • on a mac, yes. you can make an aggregate device in the audio midi setup utility. works just fine, can also use it to combine input and output devices for those apps that require it.

  • @wellingtonCres Thanks for the "Aggregate" tip.
