Could iSymphonic Orchestra work for live playing?

I have not yet purchased isymphonic orchestra. At the moment I am using my ipad for playing keyboard instruments like organ, strings and synths at church every Sunday with a midi controller. The only sound I am not fully satisfied is with strings. I use the korg module strings but I would like something that sounds a bit more real. Will isymphonic work fine with some tweaking for backing strings live? If not, is there any other alternative for strings on ipad?

  • In my opinion iSymphonic is the best you can get on iOS.An alternative is Sampletank with the MiroslavPack.
That is a very good alternative, although not so many different sounds.

@Grobles87 - Korg Module has some great strings and pads; choirs, brass, along with organs, and a very good natural grand. All in one app. Might be a good alternative.

Plus it allows you to create custom sets.

  • It probably depends on the iPad. Personally I love the app but wouldn't dare play it live with my iPad mini 2

  • I think iSymphonic is the best so far. Dragged myself with extra grumbling to buy the IAPs bit by bit but have never regretted getting them (the Missus might disagree...)

  • @TGiG Why wouldn't you play it with an ipad mini 2? Do you tend to have glitches or cutoffs if you push it too hard? I have a mini 2 myself and my idea is only to use the string sounds and nothing else per song. I never use 2 sounds per song when playing live.

  • @Grobles87 it's usually fine if I have wifi off, put it in airplane mode, and close all other apps. But it'll occasionally get some crackles when I change presets.

I'm sure you can play it safe and make it run smoothly. I do recommend it!

    Hope that helps!

  • One more vote for iSymphonic. Certainly the most convincing for string sounds. I've used it live successfully. The only issue is that it takes a while to load. If you're gonna keep it open then that's not really an issue, just beware. I would also check out Thumbjam if you don't already own it. I mean, everyone should own it anyway....but I particularly like the cello setting with long fifths and thirds, has a great tone.
