Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 issues

Hi, long time lurker, first time poster. In my current set up I am running an M-audio Keystation 49es and a Scarlett 2i4 into a Gear Head 7 port USB hub into an Ipad Pro 9.3.2. Right now i'm using Moog Model 15 and audiobus into Auria Pro. I can manage to keep this setup running for about 20-25 minutes before my audio shorts from the audio interface back to the ipad. Has anyone else experienced similar issues concerning the 2i4? I am unsure if it is an issue with my USB hub or the interface. When the audio gets rerouted to the ipad I lose all my midi connections as well, but none of the equipment loses power. What am I missing here??

  • Hmm.... I don't usually have anything more than a Condenser Mic connected to my Focusrite Scarlett 2i4. On occasion my guitar. I've never experienced anything close to what you are experiencing?

I am not an expert on anything electrical, but............If it works for 25 minutes, and your apps aren't crashing...... I suspect it is the Powered USB hub? Seems like something is getting too hot?

You can pick up smaller USB hubs from Amazon, maybe pick up one, I think I got mine for 10 or 15 bucks, and see if that solves it? Cheaper than buying a new Scarlett. If it does same thing, you can always return USB hub to amazon........

  • I have experienced similar issues with my Focusrite iTrack dock. I usually have my guitar plugged in, running Jampup Pro via Audiobus into Cubasis. It works fine for about 20 minutes and then the sound disappears and I hear the telltale clicks that connections are initiating like they do when you first connect the iPad. But until I eject Jamup and Cubasis and shut down and restart Audiobus I don't get any sound.

I notice the latest Audiobus update mentioned bug fixes for certain audio interface problems so I am hoping this will fix the problem. Not had time to test it out yet though.

Hmmmm. I had not suspected Audiobus as a potential culprit to this problem.

@mschenkel.it seemed to be experiencing a similar problem with a non focusrite interface, and determined the problem to be outside of the USB hub. Are you currently using audiobus in your set-up? @High5denied

  • no haven't used audiobus with my focusrite. Audiobus as a culprit is very interesting.
