  • @eyeballjackson - I caved and picked it up to, and I have to agree with you. Very nice job on Thesys. Very deep and flexible. It took me a while before I found the zoom function and was going crazy trying to figure out how anyone could use it.

  • Here is something I was playing with last night. I was using BS-16i w/ a drum soundfont, then used SampleTank drums, strings, and brass. The SoundCloud clip below is just Sampletank drums and I had a Brass/String pattern that I really liked but it kept crashing when I'd try to upload it, it sounded really cool, maybe I'll try later.

  • @eyeballjackson, how are you getting multiple patterns to run at the same time?

  • @TTaylor - I'm not sure, I'm pretty sure its not possible and think he may have misread/misunderstood...

  • @JMSexton, that's what I thought. The manual does say, though, that multiple channels can play at the same time. Do they just share the same pattern? Have you tried it? Thanks for being the spearhead! I'm super interested in this app but I'm not sure how to apply it. I play sax and accompany myself with moving drones. I started creating patches in Nave, which is awesome, but I'd like more sonic diversity while I'm playing.

Its not possible. You can assign multiple midi ports/channels to control different instruments, but always on the same pattern...

  • Like manuhz said, you could run 3 different synths on different channels playing same pattern I believe.

  • Yes,. I misunderstood. By "multiple patterns" I meant multiple channels. Sorry bout that

  • No problem!

  • I'll stick with Genome.

  • @TedBPhx - you're missing out, while it may lack that ability, it makes up for it with depth and flexibility of almost every parameter. Create "evolving" patterns/sequences by setting each area at different length sequences causing it to change over time. It's really great. I want to like Genome but find it confusing sometimes and somewhat difficult to work with.

  • The single-pattern limitation is, understandably, a dealbreaker for many folks' needs, but its approachability and performance features still make it very attractive.

  • @JMSexton, I initially found Genome a little tricky at first too, but I dusted it off this week played it a lot and found out its all really pretty easy. In fact it's an amazing app...16 patterns to 16 midi channels simultaneously.

This visual review/tutorial is great http://apps4idevices.com/read/genome-midi-sequencer.html

Although what I am hearing here about Thesys sounds interesting. :)

  • @JMSexton The looper live play function in Genome is slick. Kinda like playing with Samplr. One finger to slide over notes or two fingers to slide over a range. Complete CC automation and pitch bend. The manual is abysmal and while it does support OMAC app switching most apps don't so it's double tap the home button to switch. Even if it supported Audiobus to make switching easier I might not give up a slot for a third synth.

If they put controls for Play/Pause, Next (pattern/sequence), and etc in AB side panel it'd be nice
