Zoom U24 and U44 and IOS

So these 2 guys seem to be available to ship. Has anyone done the ordering. I'd be very interested how they perform as multi-out interfaces.

If there's no volunteers in the next few weeks I'll probably dive in myself since the u24 goes for as little as £119

  • Especially interested in that 'usb/off/battery (tablet)' switch on the side.

  • Interested in these as well, so please report back if you plunge.

  • What we need is a 'have a quick whip round' bucket :)

  • Apogee one prob sounds better but it doesn't have the functionality of the Zooms..

Well, they claim the preamps are the same as on the zoom H6 recorders which have got a solid standing. 4 discreet outs and midi IO definitely go one over apogee.

  • Supadom, who's "they"? You mean Zoom? And yeah H6 recorders have a good sound by most accounts.. Hmmm...

  • Looks like iPad-only per this Zoom rep:

I wonder why. It's not getting power from either device anyway.

I'm guessing whatever comes out Zoom's mouth regarding their products is as valid as Apogee's.

My point is that there isn't anything else of this form factor and features around at the moment. If it works well, at this price point it's a non brainer.

Personally I rather dislike the quality of Zoom guitar effects but who knows.

  • Supadom.. Agreed.

  • Reviving this old thread with a specific question about the Zoom U-24:

I want to use it on an iPad or iPhone with Loopy Pro. Will the 4 outputs show up in Loopy as separate outputs, or are they stereo-linked in a way?
I need to be able to create at least 3 separate outputs in Loopy Pro for my purposes.
Hope someone can help me answer this one? ☺️

Yes, the individual inputs and outputs are separately available

  • I use the U44 and power it via USB and have no problems

  • That’s great news! Thanks a lot. Off to buy it then!

  • Thanks for digging up this thread.

I’ve been using u 24 and u 44 with the extra 2 xlr capsule in my different live rigs.

They’ve performed magnificently for the past 8 years of regular use. They’re both super practical and sound good to my ear although I maybe wouldn’t use them for studio releases.

  • Wondering if these interfaces are still the state-of-the-art for lightweight remote situations. Is there nothing that challenges the U24 and U44 now? (Apart from that beautiful and absurdly expensive Teenage Engineering field mixer, I mean.)

Are there updated Zoom devices? Coming?

There is a more compact series of zoom interfaces. I know 0 about whether the we preamps are as good but I know a few people that use them because of the compactness. It is the AMS series
