Samplr on Ipad Air 2

Hello,
Is anyone using Samplr with the Air 2? Just want to make sure it's a fit before I pick one up. Thanks!

  • I use it on the mini 4, which is essentially the same thing, without any problems.

  • Perfect fit

  • Thanks!!

  • Hah, I use it perfectly on my iPad 2! Love this great app, just too bad it hasn't been updated in a while w/ Link.

Yep. I've been using it on Air2.

I know Samplr doesn't have Link. But I've been using the Midi-to-Link-Sync app and it works perfectly with Samplr. It even starts Samplr.
So you get Gadget (in my case) running and Linked to and then you can effectively run Samplr in (to my ears) perfect sync (for a good 10 minute session anyway). Then you can always restart via Midi-to-Link-Sync if required.

One more app to run, but once running (which is very easy) it's pretty much like Samplr having Link already.

  • Hey @Matt_Fletcher_2000 do you mind sharing how did you get it all connected? I've tried midi link sync app but can't get Samplr to play ball. I have Samplr ticked in Midi Link Sync midi prefs and the MLS switch in midi sync in Samplr is also on. I have loopy behaving as supposed but when I start Samplr manually it starts right away rather than waiting until 1. What am I doing wrong?

If MLS is sending data to Samplr port then Samplr will have to listen to its own port; since Samplr doesn't have its own port you'll have to send clock to MLS out and make Samplr listen to that port. This works for every kind of midi routing.

    Edit: tested and working

With Midi link sync and Samplr, tick the "Midi link sync OUT" port from MLS and choose that from Samplr. Works for me anyway.

  • Ok, so I've messed with it some more and albeit it is Monday morning I'm feeling dim yet brave and this are the results:

    a. I managed to get loopy and Samplr in sync using MLS. Samplr wouldn't start on the 1 via its own start button but from MLS.

    b. The MLS link sink was not better than the original midi sync, about the same with added bother to have another app running and having to go back and forth to that app to start and stop Samplr unless using two devices.

I think it is cool that this is working but I see no use for it myself. Currently I have it all synced up via IAA midi clock which only requires me to toggle one switch in Samplr's settings without the need for running an extra app. I can stop Samplr individually via arturia beatstep's stop button and restart the whole shebang in sync via start in loopy (double tap to stop and restart which Samplr just follows).

I'm also thinking that if MLS uses the original IAA midi sync to make this work then the sync can't be tighter than the original IAA midi sync as it is the bottleneck of the system anyway.

Better finish this post before midday or I won't be able to use Monday morning excuse for being slow anymore. ;(

  • Thanks guys for the tips @mschenkel.it @Carnbot
