iOS Music Frustration

I have frustrations with iOS audio, and from a different source than these mentioned already. I am fine using AB/AUM/ModStep etc for setups that work reliably (IAA App permitting), by this I mean that I know the IAA's that work for me and I tend to stick to them.

Where my frustration comes from is with external audio input. I have used a few different interfaces and all display similar behaviour which leads me to the conclusion that it is something in iOS itself that causes my issues.

What I experience is that external audio behaves differently at different times and for no explainable reason.

For example, I have a Novation Circuit connected to a Behringer uca202, in stereo. When I first connected this it worked and I could hear the circuit no problem (some background noise present). with no apps running. I could run other apps and hear both circuit and apps through headphones no problems.
Then for no reason whatsoever during a different session I could only hear audio from circuit if I loaded a channel in AUM and selected the USB input as the source.
Next to occur was only getting audio in the left channel, again nothing changed just a different session.
Currently I can hear audio from circuit in both ears but only very quietly, once again with no app running, and I can get full volume back if I load into AUM as before.
The right channel will randomly work full volume, but sometimes only with the quiet volume I get without AUM.

It never seems to be the same 2 sessions running, and is hugely frustrating. I used to get the same issues trying to record a guitar using Realtone cable or UC202 in cubasis.

I also have an alesis Core 1, which seems to work consistently for guitar using MONO input, but the right channel is all scratchy if I try and use it with a stereo (TRS) line input.

I have tried all of the above kit connected to a PC and it works no problem, so I do not think I have any problems with lose connections or dodgy cables.

Just you guys wait for Audiobus 3. We're going to address so many of these issues.

    It moved.

  • OK ... total guess here. Sorry if it's way off.

I have found that if I'm using headphones, and also some other times, the audio input will switch from my USB interface to the headphone or the iPad mic. This will happen almost every time if I plug / unplug the headphones after I've connected the interface. Unplugging and re-plugging the interface causes it to switch back.

Loading in AUM and reloading sounds somewhat similar, as it is a way of resetting the audio stream.
