Help Gettin an interface for my Live Setup

Hey Guys

need a little help picking an audio interface. I've recently expanded my array of hardware with a couple volcas. (A Bass,Keys and a Sample.) and sadly my existing Novation Audiohub is severely lacking in terms of inputs. What i'm looking for is an audio interface that is IOS compatible and bus powered that also has at minimum 4 Inputs (both synths are monophonic but the Sample is stereo). Any suggestions ? I've been looking at the focurite interfaces but looking around on the internet it seems they're having a lot of problems with Ios9. Any suggestions would be welcome. preferable none that will break the bank lol.

  • Iconnect Audio 4+
It's a bit complex, but open lot of configurations : 2 ipads connected, 1 Ipad / 1 Mac or Pc.
If you're more into hardware I would also say 4 inputs is a bit short.
Too bad ICA4+ can't reverse his outputs to inputs, maybe one day ?

does it work on bus power ? cause i'm trying to make my entire setup battery powered.
no wall sockets on the beach/forest/etc :/

  • No, I think you would need something a bit like this also (carefull of type of power and Amps, this is just an exemple)

  • K-mix might be something to check also, but quite more expensive...

Omg. The Iconnect seems to be perfect. sadly its not available in my country (india). importing it here makes it prohibitively expensive :( actually did the math. its 550$ (yes. in usd) if i go that route :(
I've actually looked into the K-Mix. sadly it seems to not have multiple inputs on IOS yet. and doesn't work on windows at all (my main production system) so its pretty much useless currently.

  • outch, indeed...Maybe on your next vacations in Europe ?

  • actually got in touch with the sales guys. sadly its still 424.171 USD. which is still a bit
too dear for me :( ah well. will just soldier on using some wierd pc ipad hybrid for now....

to be honest i got it cause it basically does near 0 latency(or close enough) midi and audio into my pc. which is amazing.

  • Never realised the ICA4+ did MIDI too... interesting! So, can someone clarify:

    1. Can the ICA4+ be a USB host without an iOS device (i.e. I can connect my OP1 to my other synths?)
    2. Is there an iOS app where I can change the routings?
    3. Could a 1 I/O USB midi interface be added to the USB host to get more MIDI connections into the ICA4+?

    Thanks!

doubtful. pretty sure it needs a mac/pc/ios device. could be wrong though. will test this after i get my unit.

    Yes.

Pretty sure this is a yes. they specifically state that you can use upto 8 midi sources on the host port. so 8 devices on 1 hub. so a single one should work.

  • I think the answer to 1 should be yes too, but I don't have any midi receiver hardware to test. It just depends how it is set up, I think, which you need a device for. This video may answer your questions about midi.

The newly released zoom u24 or u24 is your ticket. Pretty good spec for a battery powered audio/midi interface. Also affordable.

One issue is that it hasn't been community tested but I'll be getting it as soon as my head is out of the building house project.

Sadly i've already purchased an iConnectAudio4+. so no new interfaces for me at least for a year or two.

  • @gonekrazy3000 ,

Where you live? Taj Mahal; no need for reverb app. :p

Bombay? New Delhi? I am going to see your concert!

Oh, no Bombay duck and Tandoori Butter Chicken?

Goa trance and prawn & crab curry will do.

Below is my favorite music from Youtube,

almost certain the answer to all 3 is yes, provided the usb to midi din device was class compliant... nearly purchased one of these myself

  • zoom u24 looked very exciting until i saw:

    • Requires 2 AA batteries or optional AC adapter for power, plus an Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit or Lightning-to-USB Camera Adapter for connection to iPad.

It doesn't. But I actually got it for my studio rig. For my performance rig I'm just gonna be using the sample directly connected to a mixer while the bass and the keys go through my Audiohub.

  • Steinberg ur44. Im using the ur22 mkII(same as ur44, but with 2 inputs) and its working great with my ipad. Also the preamps are top quality for the price. Steinberg, roland and focusrite scarlett have the best and equally good preamps in their price point, at least was like that a while ago. Im not sure if focusrite managed to fix their driver issues on windows with their scarlett mkII series, but at least the original scarlett series had a lot of problems on windows side(apparently not on mac tho because osx has its own superior drivers and dunno about ios).
