Midi LINK Sync App: APP USES?

What does this app do?

Does it actually allow for non LINK apps to sync up via this app?

Comments

  • yes. I use it often in combination with Studiomux (Midimux) to sync hardware and software sequencers and arpeggiators.

  • I never succeed to sync anything with it...never got BeatStep pro to sync with it, using it with AUM, ModStep...
    I really wish I could

    Multiple apps?

    Even non LINK enabled apps?

  • You can use it to sync the midi clock with Link.

An example of where this is useful would be, like I do, use link to sync blocs wave to Midi link sync, then use the midi sync from midi link sync to sync Novation circuit. This means I can sync blocs wave and circuit.

Another use is to sync midi clock apps with link apps, send midi clock from your app to Midi link sync, then sync blocs wave to midi link sync using link, and you've got blocs wave synced to Another app that only has midi clock.

I've used this app pretty effectively. I've tested in comparison with Link to MIDI and MIDI Link Sync came out on top for me.

    I use it to (simultaniously):
    1. Send a clock to my MPD for note repeat function
    2. Send a clock to Samplr for Sync
    3. Send a clock to second iPad for Sync in FLUX:FX

    Never had any issues here.

  • You're torturing me... :'(

    Funny.

I am glad to see this actually though. It should give you hope! LOL

We are all talking about this app from Coding Cod, right?

  • edited June 2016

I was talking about the one by Alexandernaut, the Fugue app guy...
For some reason don't have that one by Coding Cod
And as you might know the Apple Store seems to be hacked so no possibility to down it...

I'd recommend testing both and seeing which works best for you (both free) rather than just going by the one with the biggest name developer. I used Link to MIDI for a long time before trying out MIDI Link Sync on a whim, and my iOS Music life immediately became (slightly) easier.

  • I can think of another use for MIDI Link Sync too, which I'm going to try out shortly:

iPad A: Link sent via MIDI to iPad B
    iPad B: MIDI to Link

Easy multi device link for live use.

Oh, like when you don't have them both on the same wifi network? Clever.

  • I've been using MIDI Link Sync to sync Samplr with LINK apps like Gadget and it seems bang on to me. Lots of fun and easy to set up. No problems at all.

Thanks all, I will try Midi Link Sync ... I really need something...

Are any of you able to sync a hardware sequencer with iPad?...Where sequencer could run all and be triggered via iPad or just trigger iPad apps...

Sorry for the confusion of the two apps, (the question is in the title), I took it for general question about sync of hardware to iOS apps with those apps... I get confused which is which...

  • I've had success syncing my MPD note repeat function with both MIDI Link Sync and Link To MIDI. I feel that MIDI hardware is generally easier to achieve solid sync with than MIDI software.

I have synced both Beatstep and circuit sequencers to ipad and had them both triggering apps, not tried them at the same time though, the beatstep is currently collecting dust :|

to sync TR-808, Microbrute sequencer, Doepfer 16-3 sequencer is common usage at my studio, and Midi Link Sync is the translator from Ableton Link to MIDI clock, and later analogue clock which then can be further randomised and divided.

Another usage is - similar to Oscar's idea - to sync two computers that are on different networks. I've done that a couple of times where one machine is connected to a LAN and one machine connected to an internet wifi. An iPhone is synced to Link and sends the tempo information via cable (midimux) to the other machine.

These things indeed have become very easy today. We're in sync heaven.

Recorded a quick take so that you can see MIDI Link Sync holding Samplr and FLUX:FX to tempo on two separate ipads (through a tempo change) in addition to syncing the note repeat function on an MPD controller:

Thank you guys so much for all your help and especially to you @OscarSouth for making the video.
Very grateful to you all :)

Now off to make it all work with "ideally 2 iPads, keyboards, sequencer"... :#

    EDIT:
Wow got it all working in ModStep, including Samplr.....
