Bose Soundlink III vs. ILoud

I have had an iLoud for quite a while now, and love it. It's not only a great sounding little guitar amp with my modelling software, it's a nice, flat sounding studio monitor, and streaming music of any kind sounds fantastic through it.

I went to a seminar for networking software today, and they had a door prize. That I won. A Bose SoundLink III. They are about the same value, and I have heard many good things about the Bose.

So I got home, and I had to A/B them, of course. Played some classical music, played some rock, flipping back and forth between the two.

Got to say, iLoud is the one. Better definition of individual instruments. Midrange on the Bose sounded congested to me, at least in comparison to the iLoud. The Bose still sounds pretty darn good. But I'll take the iLoud any time.

Middledottir has now appropriated the Bose, at least for the moment. I'll definitely mix on it as well, just to hear a different sound.

Comments

  • I generally speaking don't like how Bose stuff sounds after years of flat monitoring. Too much emphasis on the low end

  • It really did seem to drop the midrange in favour of bass.

  • Wow, great to hear and thank you for sharing this. I will let the team know and I think that bodes well for how people looking for monitoring solutions will also likely enjoy iLoud Micro Monitor especially because of the 5 reasons it is great for small spaces (though obviously mobile folks can go anywhere so you might actually have the opposite to contend with - huge, even outdoor, spaces at times  ).

  • Wow that's really cool! @rickwaugh

I have the iLoud and the Bose mini. The mini is totally unusable for guitar. It's a great speaker, but not a monitor.

On the other hand, the iLoud is damn near perfect for a small monitor. You can also mix bluetooth with the line in on that, BTW.

My only complain about the iloud is the rather unwanted way they have it married to the iOS crap (yes i'm aware this in an iOS forum :D )

The routing is all **** up IMHO>

  • Picked up an iLoud two days ago. Very happy with it.
