  • Expected to hear sad story

    Left hearing a good song.

  • With excellent production values and very Cat Stevens-looking art!
    Nicely done.

  • Damm!! Me like. B)

  • Thanks! I didn't do the art, that was Jeff, the guitarist, but he'll appreciate that. Thanks for taking the time to listen!

  • We received a very nice review from this site, and the best part is that we don't know who they are!

well deserved... but you didn't do that on an iPad, did you ? o:)
    cool stuff B)

    cheers, Tom

  • Very good - all kudos deserved!

  • Congrats on a great track! I've been Sutterwax fan since first hearing you on this forum. :)

  • Awesome, catchy track! Great job :+1:

  • Thanks! I did mix it on an iPad (auria)and I did use sunrizer on it, I believe I used Imini as well. And the electronic drums and loops, maybe some synths too, were nanostudio. And the demo was in GarageBand....

But I really appreciate the comments. I'm very much looking forward to being in Maine in 2 weeks for another session, it's the highlight of my summer!

    respect squared... B)
imh ears it was close to perfect except the 'louder' parts which I might have adjusted slightly different
(but to a degree that's clearly a matter of taste)

    cheers, Tom

Could be a matter of taste, but I also realize that despite the little bit I may know I have a million more things to learn. Luckily we now have a friend who is a full time audio guy who tracks and mixes so I get to just play bass and write/arrange. Very liberating. And I'm learning a lot from his work.

I really appreciate everyone taking the time to listen.

  • "Disappointment" usually describes what I feel when I listen to most music links I run across -- but not in this case! Very strong track indeed! Interesting concept, the whole method behind it -- it must be a wonderful experience! It was strong enough to get me to check out several other tracks, my favorite of which so far is "I'll Fly Away." Alas, Shutterwax seems a bit too "modern rock" for my tastes, which are quite diverse but tend to be more pre-90s when it comes to rock. Impressive if these tracks were mixed on an iPad.

Thanks! Here's the Bandcamp page if you want to hear the whole album or other singles. Definitely some things on there that are not 90's for you. Shutterwax is not always the same group of people so what comes out varies depending on who is involved that summer. We shall see in 2 weeks what comes out this year!

The new stuff that will be coming out mostly will be mixed by our friend Steve, who is an engineer, so he doesn't mix on iPad (but he will someday, I'll convince him!). But disappointment and hurricane are still from the time period of me mixing so they were done in auria. We tracked into reaper, mainly because the interfaces we have available to track a whole band didn't work with ios. Also, managing a recording of a live band with multiple takes and such is much easier for me in reaper (not to mention hard drive space!).

Thanks for the thoughtful comments though, I appreciate you taking the time to listen.

  • Man, this sounds great. Really well done, Mark.

  • Me likey

  • Sick track. I'm digging that chill vibe. Vocals are on point and love that guitar sound too :)
