After reading this thread I compared recording results between a bunch of apps, and I still get my best straightforward field recording results using TwistedWave. (maybe because its dynamics settings can better-than-nullify iOS audio processing) TW can also handle some pretty complex editing after capture, and then I can export to mix wherever or further edit wherever.
When TwistedWave introduced metadata editing/management (omg hard as gobstoppers to find on iOS!), I was sooooo thrilled! [HAPPYDANCE!!!!]
TwistedWave with multi-track capability would totally bliss me out.
ps: I don't work for the TW people I swear. :P
pps: Sorry for thread hijack.
I've always assumed that for straight, raw ambient iOS field recording, most of the apps would be about the same. But, I've never really compared. Are you saying there's a significant difference between them?
I know you can change the recording settings for MTD up to 24bit at 96k. And AudioShare has recording settings up to 32bit 96k.
What is the significant audible difference between apps for iOS recording only? I'd thought MTD was likely a good one, but tend to use AudioShare most.y out of convenience & ease, since I'd assumed there wouldn't be that big a difference. Not so?
Sorry about the delay, I missed your q's.
My testing was not extensive, I simply recorded my voice saying the same word in as closely similar styles/volumes/distances as I could, in each app set to its optimal capture settings.
The significant differences in hissy noise floor per app surprised me considerably. I hadn't expected that. The differences I got were evident even over the device speakers.
Try it yourself, check out your results, and please report back! If it was just me I'd be very glad to know it.
There is no vertical zoom. Which, I was fine with. And love the app for it's simplicity and ease of use. But now, I am longing for some vertical zoom. hmmmm.... I never needed/wanted it before in MT DAW.........
Do not expect any feature requests to be implemented by that dev though. Updates are rare and mostly to keep up with iOS changes. Buy it for what it is. Otherwise a good, solid, Swiss army DAW.
When it has Link it'll be perfect for basic audio tracking and transferring to a desktop DAW.
Still no count-in, right?
Is there an easy way to get stems out of it? I don't think it can export them automatically, unfortunately.
@overorange Yes but it's a litt counterintuitive.

An IP address will be displayed. Connect to it to move stems from your iPad.
O ya, this is something it seriously needs.
Awesome! Thanks!
I read somewhere he is adding Link to MTD 1(God knows when?). Also he's working on MTD 2. It will be a new DAW, as he wants to keep MTD 1 as it is because of older the IOS. But it maybe a long wait for it? But fair play to pwnified. He is still thinking of older devices.
Super easy and common sense app.
Wish I discovered earlier.
Great for IPhone or sketching or splice loops type stuff.
Developer also responsive and talented at his craft.
It's my understanding the app has no vertical zoom capability. You could contact the developer to verify and/or request such a feature.
Thought this was good a place as any to put this:
INTUA BeatMaker: An official statement will be made by the end of August :-) Cheers
When they were asked about BM3.
I have MTD since the days of the iPad One - and I'm recording everything in this app.
Has all the essentials with punch in/out and loop recording in really smart way.
Favourite feature: even while it generates a waveform, it already plays back...
(and could simultaneously scroll in the reverse direction to go to the next point of interest)
If it supported named regions and could write a classic EDL I'd call it perfect
cheers, Tom
I think of it as an 8 track portastudio machine with benefits vs a simplified mobile version of say, Pro Tools. Never lets me down.
I don't doubt you (as if I would ), but if you were sat on the majesty of your own couch why would you reach for this rather than Nano/AP/CueB etc etc?
enhanced focus - less distraction
You have exactly what it needs to nail an idea down, and you cannot even be tempted to try whatever. In fact it improves things a lot.
In MTD there's still a timeline to 'cheat' - on a Portastudio you'd be even more focussed.
It's a strange experience, but with just a couple of track markers, you start to 'live in the track' after a short while.
With visual feedback available that would be almost impossible (man is lazy by nature)
You WILL peek at the cursor once the virtual tape is rolling - on real tape there'd be nothing but the count-in groove.
It's certainly not convenient, but it will make you better in the end - or drive you nuts ...
cheers, Tom
Yeah, I've been finding that by far the best recordings I'm making these days are a '1 take' job in AUM.
I have this app and every time I tried to use it on IPHONE I cant seem to figure out how to edit recorded audio so I gave up on it.
Some aspects seem so intuitive, others make no sense to me on this one.
Maybe someone could learn me on how to edit(cut/copy/slice) recorded audio and what parameters can be manipulated.
(ON THE IPHONE) for me please.
Thank you
Hey @RustiK
Not sure if this is what you are after, image below. Get those options by a long press on the track or wave form. Keep pressing and slide over to yer choice. Slice does what ya think it does. Audio will get you to the Bins? or actual recorded audio. Edit will allow you to fade in and out, and move the waveform. As said in other threads, you can't vertical zoom, only horizontal.
I love the app and it's simpleness. I only wish I could have a count in with the metronome. Like 2 or 3 measures.
I hear you. One of the main things (or unintended consequences) I love about Beathawk is the looseness that comes with writing (playing) by ear rather than eye....
I find that Beat Hawk by ear flows much nicer than heart felt "composition" and "MIDI -aling"
I agree with you.
I will try this at gym today.
Thank you for your time.
I use MTDaw more than any other app in regards to music making. iPad and iPhone version work exactly the same.
Hoping for Link in the future, then it'd be perfect.
I mostly use it on my phone so AP/CB are out and NS doesn't record audio per se. When I use it on the larger fella, it's because of simplicity and deft quickocity along with no immediate plans to develop it further. MTD editing ain't fun for me so if I know that I'm laying several tracks at once that I want to develop beyond straight overdubs, I point it at something else. Using AUM to record is really handy but if it's more than two tracks that I'd like to play back, I'm not all that interested.
It's coming! Look for it to arrive probably shortly after iOS 10 drops.
Amazing. It'll be #1 for tracking by a large margin when Link hits
