Lorentz or Mersenne? Other?
I own and enjoy using Cassini and Laplace. I want to get another synth that supports state saving and Link. Are Mersenne's sounds sufficiently different from Laplace's? Other (comparatively inexpensive) synths I'm considering are Synthmaster Player, zMors, Sparkle and DRC.
Comments
I love synthmaster. Prob. my favorite ATM. Lorentz is fun as hell too. Easy to use. Can't comment on Mersenne. I watched the videos and it didn't seem like something I would use.
Mine is another vote for Synthmaster (although I use and enjoy all of the others with the exception of zMors)
Synthmaster (if you lean towards presets), DRC (if you lean the other way...)
Oops, Mersenne and Laplace don't save state, they just have Link. DRC is looking good. I like to tweak...
With objectivity / subjectivity in mind I'll say that DRC has always felt so damn good to me both to use and audio wise. Super straightforward UI and capable of such Umph.
Agreed, if there was an award for the coefficient between simplicity of looking and complexity of doing DRC would be up there...
Mersenne has similar features as Laplace, but makes different sounds. Similar vibe of the sound, but it excells at bell sounds, steel drum-like sounds, and other complex, metalic percussive sounds. It is a nice companion to laplace and as layed out in a similar way. I would say it is in the same family of sound as laplace. Recommended if you like laplace and are looking for another unusual, but similar synth.
Bring back a fully featured Alchemy - it's what the iPad is crying out for and for me was probably the best sounding app there has been to date (I know that won't happen
I just pulled out the old painted tart for the first time in months. Forgot how good Magellan is. But for some reason I can't access any of the presets except the ones I created. Strange.
BOTH
Lorent + Laplace + Mersenn
You can do entire song
Lorentz and mersenne plays really nice together now with link and their internal arp, I'm having a blast!
Having a fondness for old tarts......ran a check (Air 1 and Big Boy/latest) and she still stands by the dresser and sings her full repertoire over here....
Johnny always makes me smile. Not many people can do that.
Johnny always makes me smile.
I bought Mersenne last night and it's...I'd say.....an acquired taste. I don't love it (yet), but I am a huge fan of spiky FM sounds and have already built up a collection of patches which all sound like they come from Strider on the Megadrive. Which is a good thing.
Oddly, my least favourite part is its USP: the resonator section. I just turn it off....
