It really is a kitten once you get to know it. Maybe a kitten with some kind of personality disorder
You big kind hearted softie...... You.
Wonderful app! Go! Buy!
iVCS3 is a remarkable app. It is definitely one of those "I could never own the hardware version" type of apps that I use to show off to my musician friends.
Dang, off to the store....
If you're new to the app, I highly recommend a series of YouTube tutorials from Digital Jeepney. She does a very good job explaining some of the features of the app.
Sound is cool, but I never could get my head around this beast. YMMV.
Also, don't forget you can use it in the FX slot. There are AB FX presets so, e.g., you can send a guitar through it and great a great spring reverb sound!
outstanding! and they have a preset bank full of nuttiness for us as well
How much is this usually?
Cheers, will check them out.
Regular price: $14,99
Lowest price: $7,99
Its to cheap for what it does.
It's cheap at 4x the normal price!
Esp. compared to a real one at $14,895.00 !!!!
http://www.ebay.com/itm/EMS-VCS3A-synthesizer-PUTNEY-MARK-1-SERIAL-NO-232-Very-RARE-Synthi-Modular-/222086008651?hash=item33b55b8f4b:g:a8EAAOSwiwVWRqYw
Plus - you get all the additional smarts of the LFO modulations and the like, not to mention you can carry it with you!
The thing is crazy. Cool, but definitely takes some getting into it. You can definitely do things with this that you can't with your typical synth.
so watching those videos reveals that this thing has an oscillator in the keyboard?! and a sample based oscillator on the back panel?!
insanity.
btw i was told ems are still making putneys at a cost of $25k and a delivery queue of 7 years, perhaps a myth but these have an essential status in film and tv work
iVCS3 is actually pretty accessible even if you have no clue what you are doing you just throw pins in and out and twist knobs and see if what you did sounds good, eventually you kind of learn. My preset are in there as free IAP, just opening a preset you like you can tweak to make your own and end up with something totally different even with only a few parameters or connection pins moved around.
Like Derek said much better for your wallet than a real one
I understand iVCS3 a lot more now than I did a year ago. Some basic synthesis knowledge goes a long way here. Know enough to know what to expect, but not enough to be afraid of experimentation. This app is perfect for getting crazy and unconventional.
the funny thing about it is it opens the door to different ways to think about sound,
and it never gets boring.
Its like the rubic's magic sound cube for sound nerds.
i found some tasty resources!
the book of sound by david steven
delia's dopesheets
dopesheets on thesynthi.de
learned a fun fact: the scope output can be routed back into inputs 1 or 2, allowing for feedback. watch yer bass bins im tellin ya...
Delias Dopesheets are included in the presets.
It's the Derbyshire bank.
I pimped them a little so you can use the gyroscope in the iPad to move the joystick / change the sound ...
So the presets are delias dopesheets 2.0
Have fun.
I'm a bit like @RedSkyLullaby above : I don't really know what I'm doing, but I always have fun. I've bought all the sound IAPs and I was wondering whether or not to buy the red pins? Would they be any use for someone like me? What do they do?
Red pins invert signal, so left becomes right, falling becomes rising ect.
Hm, if you don't know what you are doing
The iap gives you more options to get crazy that are not possible as is. Flip a few new switches and listen what happens. (It's does sync now, longer envelope, red pins, joystick glide, use osc 3 as real Osc, Vco shape mod instead of am with last 2 rows, s&h ...)
You take the white pin, the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pin…
Ist not that complicated
White pins = normal powered connection
Green pin = 2/3 the power of a white pin connection
Red pins = like white pins but "the other way around"
One thing that’s different on the iVCS3 to a real VCS is the ease of looking down at the patch matrix on the real box, almost in the same glance. I’d really appreciate a way of “ghosting” a view-only image of the patch matrix over the knob view. As it stands, it’s a bit of a cognitive chop to go from knob to matrix and back again rapidly, to check things really are what they seem (things are never quite what they seem, according to Stan Ridgeway).
very true.
I agree, it's a bit difficult to swipe between those interfaces.
Good reference to Stan Ridgeway's lyrics.
