What app am I looking for? (MIDI Sequencing/Quantization/AudioBus) [Noobish]
I am a noob to iOS production, so I apologize in advance if this has already been covered. I am using AudioBus to record multiple app instruments into GarageBand. Most of the apps do not have on-board quantization, and I would really like to quantize some of the audio I'm recording. To accomplish this on my desktop with a hardware synth, I use External Instrument in Ableton Live to send MIDI data to the synthesizer, which can easily be quantized, and record the audio output. How can I accomplish something similar on the iPad? I assume I need a MIDI sequencer? I would like to be able to record/draw MIDI and send it to an app such as Sunrizer, and then record the audio output into Garageband. I've looked at both Modstep and Genome, and I think they will do what I need, but I'm not certain. One very big requirement is that the MIDI sequencer have an option to record MIDI live as I play on a MIDI keyboard or the in-app keyboard. I very rarely draw MIDI, so this is essential. Can anyone suggest an app which will allow me to accomplish this? Thanks in advance.

modstep would be a fine choice... but cant garageband do the quantization?
GarageBand can quantize MIDI for its internal instruments, but it cannot send MIDI out, as far as I'm aware, so it cannot control an external synth app in the way I would like. The incoming signal from the external synth is audio, so there is no way to quantize that once it is in GarageBand. This seems to be the way IAA is implemented, though I could be wrong. If there is a way, I'd definitely appreciate the advice.
I'm doing some research and it actually looks like Cubasis can do what I want all within the app. Its inter-app audio apparently sends MIDI to the external app. I just saw a video where this was done. I'm very likely going to switch to Cubasis if this is indeed the case and it will work with all of my synths and such.
ahhh yes, i forgot the limitations of garageband. a pity.
cubasis is rather full featured, see also auria pro
Just looked and Auria Pro can do this too. Definitely getting one or the other. No reason to struggle with GarageBand when other DAWs have the functionality built in.
i actually do the same using a slightly complex chain. keyboard->thumbjam(to quantize and transpose)->aum (for recording). you can then paste the recordings into garageband using audioshare. aum automatically saves recordings in audioshare.
The only app that can do audio quantise on iOS is Auria Pro. It has the same kind of elastic audio functionality that you will find in Pro Tools.
I'm definitely considering Auria Pro, but I'm actually not super worried about audio quantization for this particular purpose. I would much rather have the DAW send MIDI to the external synth/app. That way I can quantize the MIDI and also make manual alterations to notes if needed. It seems both Auria Pro and Cubasis can do this. The audio warping in Auria is attractive for other purposes though.
