Just in case anyone else has had this problem.....I've had app updates lock up during the download. I tried a variety of things, but what works for me is to go the app being updated, in the area you keep it on your device, then toggle it. The first press pauses, and the second restores the download. I'd been frustrated trying to restart it from the App Store, so I hope this might help others.
