Stylus: What do you use? Apple Pencil on Non IPad Pro?
I looking for "pointy" and strong stylus for music making on IOS. I keep burning through cheap ones. Now, I was thinking about just getting the damn Apple Pencil. Some of these knobs are a real bish to tweak on the fly. Granted, I am 6'4 and weigh 245. My hands and fingers aren't exactly dainty.
Is the Apple pencil worth it for IPAD AIR 2?
Or do you have a favorable recommendation for a stylus?
I have gotten very good info here and hope to do so with this topic.
Thank you

The Apple Pencil is excellent. however it only works with iPad Pro 9.7 and 12.9
Pencil support was one of the major reasons I sold my iPad Air 2 to get the iPad Pro 9.7
Apple Pencil is stunning. But only pro models.
For non pro try 'pencil 53' it's a good alternative and works with all iPads.
No, the Apple Pencil doesn't work at all with any iPad model other than the Pro 12.9 and the Pro 9.7, and I'm not only talking about the especial features it doesn't even work as a regular stylus.
the Wacom Intuos 2 pen is good. Fine tip, built-in recharcheable battery, two programmable buttons. Works with all iPads except Pro.
you can make your own stylus using only a wire coat hanger and part of a medical cadaver.
I’ve used a Dictaphone.
You have to be careful with the air 2 as stylus support is patchy, one of the worse ipads for stylus support.
I've been using cheap styluses to write, draw diagrams and operate music apps for the last 5 years. It took me a little while to get used to the bulbous tip, but after a period of adjustment, no problem.
I continue to use such styluses with the Pro bigboy. Apple Pencil doesn't interest me due to its hard tip gliding too smoothly (skittering) over iPad's surface and that the tapping noise would annoy me.
What do you mean you "burn through" them? A stylus can last me six months, and they get used intensively, daily. I discard them when they start to get "grabby". I clean the screen every morning to prevent build-up of dreck on the tip.
I haven't had to buy a stylus in about two years. People at work donate them to me as I am the resident ipadfreak.
If you are talking about just manipulating knobs/sliders etc for music apps and not writing, i just use the wacom bamboo latest edition. I've ordered replacement nibs, but the one I've had has lasted since Halloween so far.
I tried the wacom intuo mentioned above and took it back. Didn't like the give of the point and the constant clicking sound.
Nothing so far has sated me as far as writing goes. I had high hopes at one time, but still sticking with paper or typing for that old task.
I asked for and got a jot pro for my birthday. It's one with the pointy tip and clear disk. I mainly use it for music notation in notion, not the handwriting mode, (tried it and didn't like it,) for which it works extremely well.
All the various ones I've tried have all been too mushy. I'll stick with my pointy finger...
Funny aint it? I have been fiddling with the Apple pencil after years of using mushy things. It's certainly very accurate and so forth, but for now it feels like drawing with the fin of a 59 Cadillac Coupe Deville.
I use WACOM Bamboo works quite well for art, photo manipulation, etc. less expensive than apple pencil but not cheap either.

I've used a KUEL H10 for years, and it's held up well.
For general (non-Pro) iPad'ing I'm partial to the mesh-tipped models over the rubber tips: both wear down but the rubber seems to go from real good to too-something (usually "grippy") too quickly before eventually breaking.
The mesh-tips glide elegantly across the glass consistently for a solid lifespan and there are styli with replaceable mesh nibs which have been favorites hereabouts.
Which work best on cracked screens?

Don't let the cheap price fool you, these bad boys are sturdy. You will also receive two in the box. Has a nice grip attached and the fiber end is protected by a screw on metal cap, so you may use which ever you find works best for you. You will get a bunch of back up fiber tips, and heads.

I also have a Sensu artist brush/stylus combo. The damn thing is amazing for amateur artists like myself. It is more expensive, but it has an extended grip once you expose the brush, which allows you to not slouch as much.

My big hands don't really go well with all these tiny knobs on a touch screen. I use the precision one all the time especially when working with shit like sugar bytes.
I have no problem with the Wacom Intuos 2. The cracks on my iPad are visible, but don't hinder the movement of the fine solid tip. If you have a cracked screen with elevated regions, a stylus with large rubber tip might be better.
I can feel the crack with my finger tips, but it is just a single crack going the entire length of the iPad and in the middle of the screen. Thanks for the insight.
I appreciate all the feedback.
This week I will make decision so if anyone has any other recommendations I would welcome hearing about your experiences.
Yes to answer question - I am going to only use it for knobs buttons and sliders on IOS music apps.
Sole purpose. Soul inspired.
Had to buy a replacement TV this weekend and priorities took over.
Stylus or 4k large flat screen.

(Father's Day gifts) got him those and the pencil by 53 with some apps. I love these styluses or styli exactly for what you said turning knobs and buttons that are on the screen. That's why I got them. Plus you get two for the price of one. It's made out of metal and comes with 6 back up tips in a neatly packaged foam case. Luxurious for just 16 bux.
i am really curious about these. nice price, but does it really work well for poking buttons and turning knobs on synth apps? does it help with the fat finger problem during piano roll editing? cheers
I wouldn't bull shit you. I have one in my hand right now. it works well even with sugary bytes tiny knobs.
sugary bites & tiny knobs, if every day could be chriiiiiistmas
@rhcball yes.
Even Auria Fab Filter knobs?
LOL
I got this for my daughter. Loves it
@RustiK I'm sure it'd work on a small womans clitoris wrapped in celephane if you want to try.
Won't work.
I need it for a large woman's clitoris.
Keep it classy.
