Impaktor vs. desktop DAW drums
I'm dipping my toes back into iOS for music-making, spurred on my finding out that MusicIO is working pretty smoothly now from iPad to MacBook running Studio One.
Anyway, any thoughts on comparing experiences for Impaktor vs. DAW's drum instruments?
Here's what really struck me. This week, I tried to add a really simple drum track using my DAW. The track needed to be free-time, though, so I didn't want to do it via the MIDI roll. Anyway, what seemed like it should be a simple task for a DAW surely didn't feel that way.
Well, to my pleasant surprise today, it was no big deal to just put my iPad on next to my MacBook, and use MusicIO to pipe some Impaktor beats to Studio One. Even with the noise of my family in the room, Impaktor was being responsive to about the right degree to my banging on the desk. (I had my headphone on.) It feels like the Impaktor could be a musical, simple way for this non-drummer to play and record a percussion track.
Anyway... your thoughts?
Thanks, Joe

Yes Impaktor is incredible app. Great for very expressive percussion and lots of variations of velocity on same sound and you can make your own sounds
I use logic, find the auto drummer plugin useful for thickening things up, but for me, personally impaktor is very special, I don't have anything else quite like it. Find myself tapping around my cover, rubbing the edges to trigger different sounds, plus when you start using the synth engine more, you can come up with very interesting drum sounds, which compliment the sort of noise I like making.
Impaktor like samplr puts me in a trance like state in a good way, which my mind finds pleasing. I have a reaktor ensemble called s-layer which can do interesting random drum and percussion sequences, but haven't got into it as deeply as I'd like, find there is something very immediate about getting down with impaktor. If you have reaktor btw, have a look a some of the random drum and sequencer stuff in the library or online user ensembles, some interesting stuff, plus twisted tools do some abstract reaktor stuffs which usually have touch osc/lemur templates.
Thanks for the replies! How do I get traditional drum kit sounds out of Impaktor? Maybe they are there, and I just haven't found it yet.
Impaktor is the bomb.
Personally I'd use impaktor for more experimental drums/perc, heres a vid that jakob did, seems like he finds some more traditional kicks and snares, so worth a watch I reckon.
