Question on limitations of iOS platform for multiple musical usages.
So I have touchAble as an assist to my Ableton DAW, I have iOS synths that I can trigger from an internal sequencer or external, I have iOS sequencers like Fugue I can trigger synths in my DAW or external hardware, I have an app that gives me under the hood access to one of my hardware synths, and so on. My thinking is that I can't have it all fired up at once as at some point there is going to be congestion and/or latency and/or processing issues and/or overlap of MIDI messages. I am curious of what can be done simultaneously and what should I do in a linear fashion where only certain things happen at a point in time in the music creation process. Anyone tackle this issue?

My feeling is that it is highly individual and requires lots of experimentation.
presumably you have a usb connection between the pc and ios device, yeah? then you should not worry about bandwidth unless you are into seriously earsplittingly noisy music.
the latency is nasty but the jitter is low so you can overcome it with driver error compensation and track delays.
it is a helpful simplification to keep all the sequencing on one side and synths on the other.
in practice, your concern should be not to overtax the cpu on the ios device by asking it to synthesize too much, but even a modest device should be expected to sequence a rack of midi gear with ease.
i do not have touchable so someone else would have to tell you how resource intensive it is.
+1 to what @AudioGus said. If I've learned one thing over the years it's that you can spend a lot of time thinking about workflow and hardware contingencies, but in practice, things often turn out very differently than you expect. Just start flailing around with your gear and see what works best for you.
^ that.
Thanks. Just trying to integrate my iPad into my set up best I can. Also seeing what can be done with my USB hub.
Also, on a side note, I have an external keyboard connected to my hub that I control my Mac with and I'm wondering if I can set up a switcher to control my iPad with it as well. Mainly just to quickly switch apps with a button.
