Design Award: Apple gets all confused about auxy

So auxy wins a design award from Apple. They clearly intended the new version to be the winner, as the features they are stating are features of the new auxy. But the name and screenshots and link to the app store is the old auxy ...

  • Congrats to team Auxy!

  • The new auxy is a downgrade without midi and the old auxy was a good copy of the fantastic Beatwave ...

Did Auxy copy that award winning design from the fantastic Beatwave?

  • Auxy is really puzzling. There are two versions right now, both run 'native' on the iPad since the latest iPhone version got universal some time ago. One has midi the other one doesn't. Talk about the devs creating confusion with an app/name that has identity problems...

  • The first TNR on like was Beatwave (2010) ,then real Yamaha TNR e, auxy,Medly...All those apps are good , Im fond of grid sequencer...I don't care about the Apple awards ,particulary for music apps, but They have good taste for their sélection of video games (alto,s adventure , limbo etc )

  • auxy music studio vs auxy music creation ...

I think the old version is still the better version, I still enjoy using it, and even finding new uses for it. so it is funny how they accidentally awarded the old version.

  • I picked up new-blue icon Auxy when it went universal and found it mostly kicks ass - great grid/song mode UI, and it's not at all difficult to export tracks into your iDAW of choice.

Old green on black Auxy was promising, but as I recall, it had a hint of cheese around the sonic edges.

  • The new blue universal one is pretty great. I just hope they actually add new sounds this time. HOWEVER, no music app in which it takes 5 clicks just to audition a sound should deserve a design award. What is up with these no keyboard/no auditioning sounds apps? At least Medley found a solution. It's criminal.

At this point, Medly is taking it for what I want....

Very interesting app, first time I hear about it....
Does anyone own the Beatwave 2? The pro version? It has sample import, creation of synths?
Is that done by importing a sample? Like bass sample will create a bass synth?

It really seems to have lots of similarities with auxy....

More stuff, more complicated. I have some dull travel in front of me and have created a folder with the usual suspects (Beatwave, Medly, Oscilab, Auxy x2 etc). Plan on perhaps having a battle of the bands etc.

yeah, I never use the internal sounds but as a sequencer for external synths there is still not much that is as immediate as auxy

Beatwave pro is pretty cool, but does have some drawbacks, mainly that you can only use 4 instruments total for a whole track. But you do get sample import which you can then throw into the modest synth engine. Where it really shines is the fx department, on custom instruments you get two fx in the synth, 3 in the mixer. And there's like 16 of them, filters, phasers, tremolo, all kinds of stuff. It also has panning! The piano roll is one of the best as well and the only one I know of in this genre that lets you chop notes with a swipe of the finger, hold/swipe on a note to carve a chunk out of it. Also, you can change the playback speed in even multiples of each instrument part independently Basically it would be A+ material if you weren't limited to 4 sounds. If that gets added in the future, game over Auxy.

+1 and don't Forget the generative stuff (generator and morpher) where you can random your grid .The factory sounds are modern and you can sample all your synths and Drums and import them via AS and edit them with an excellent synth engine.Beatwave needs link and more than 4 tracks ( i must export several session in multitrack daw to complete a song). But if i had to choose only one "Auxy" like apps ,it would be Beatwave pro without hesitation, no battle needed Beatwave is a clear Winner .

  • Auxy is incredibly fun when used as a midi sequencer... Caustic Auxy = Great time!

    Yes it is.
I also often Medly in the same way.

  • Beatwave Pro. Great master of soundythingiestuff, beautiful and with lots of love in tiny details. Can't praise it enough, really. Also, the 4 tracks (with all the possible modulations/variations going on) fit my bill fine. One of my main Apps.

Sometimes in Beatwave, I accidentally click something that lets me loop 1 bar of a 4 bar phrase. The word "loop" appears on the bar block but I cannot figure out to do this intentionally. You wouldn't happen to know would you? I also wonder how many other secrets this one is hiding from me.

  • Auxy rhymes with Boxy...

    ...

    ...Boxy Brown.

Sorry, does Medly do midi out sequencing? On an iPhone???

I hadn't heard of it before. Downloading now. But no mention of midi in the App Store description.

  • You can output a MIDI file on Medley.

  • @Matt_Fletcher_2000

We do MIDI export of a song, currently looking at MIDI out controls. Can't provide a timeline though.

    I just tried:
You can do so intentionally by tapping on a bar block, and then tapping on same barblock again. As long as "loop" is activated (until you tap one barblock again two times), following choices of barblocks will also loop.
I also wonder about lots of things to find inside Beatwave, always surprising to me. Lovable,

    cheers, t

  • Damn it's not working

  • Medly looks very interesting... How safe is ios9?

  • Hmm auxy is nice...midi import, play in background should be great features...☺️

  • edited June 2016

Really no background audio? And I thought I just couldn't find it...

  • If there was background audio, that would effectively relegate Auxy quite literally to the background. I tell ya these guys have some great marketing people working with them. And as I'm sure you've all noticed, regulars at the Audiobus forum do not represent the current target market for this one at all. That being said, I'm personally beginning to appreciate what they are trying to achieve with this, and I've been the biggest naysayer regarding Auxy.

  • I wrote a song with Auxy Universal (formerly Auxy iPhone) in a few hours the other day, and I currently am putting it together with bass, vox and guitar in Auria. They might be confused, but I'm digging the sounds and ease of use of Auxy U.

From what I hear, Auxy iPad is great for driving other synths. Haven't had a chance to try that out yet.

Thanks. Live midi out would be very nice.
