Just calming down after a frustrating chat with Apple support, who refused a refund.

I'm wondering, do @Retronyms perhaps have a beta that might resolve any of the issues I listed above? It'd be nice to know they're at least trying to fix things.

They (Retronyms) announced public beta for both iMPC Pro and AudioCopy a while ago but I've not heard anything back, not even a confirmation that my mail was delivered to them, maybe I'm already on a 'block-list' due to some less 'Pro Retronym' postings on both FB and here...

Oh dear. I don't understand why some devs don't actively try to fix their apps, rather than just ignore the problem. It must impact negatively on sales. I know now never to buy a Retronyms app. But, I guess they already have some of my money so their work is done. If they fixed this app, it'd be great, as well...

  • AAAAHH! Just started a new project....laid down nothing more that a simple 4/4 kick drum and moving one of the notes in the timeline made the app crash. It'd be really nice if @retronyms would jump in on this thread at some point and reassure us that fixes are on their way!

  • 4 more attempts. Nothing but a 4/4 kick with a 909 sample. No other samples or sequences in the project. Delete a rogue note in the timeline......app crashes every single time. SO INFURIATING!

  • something is definitely amiss, as this kind of thing isn't even a part of their history of issues....Is this only happening on your iPad pro?... what happens if you do the same 4/4 kick only test on your air 2?

Post your experience as a App Store review .

How come they won't give you a refund ?

They won't refund as I have, in total, already been refunded 34 times. Bearing in mind this was for 34 apps that either didn't work or do what the developer stated, I find this a bit odd. I wasn't aware that consumers were only allowed protection for a limited number of times, and many of those apps I actually re-purchased upon reading that their issues had been fixed.

I quit Facebook years ago so contacting them there is a no go. Sent an email to them and left an extremely critical review on the store (unfortunately before the latest crashes, so they weren't detailed).

  • Mine works great. IPad Air 1 9.3.2.
Have you tried loading a demo and see if that crashes?

  • Had a ten minute session on the Air 2, starting from scratch. No crashes, but a very noticeable glitching in the audio every few cycles of the loop. I've discovered that the Link implementation does (kind of) work but, for some reason, iMPC Pro will begin a loop on the nearest measure, rather than in phase with the relevant bar. This is a definite fault with the way they've programmed it. And it refuses to sync tightly with other with other apps, even when I do get it to start at the correct position, anyway. I think I'll just write this one off. It's almost fun when used standalone but...this is 2016, not 2009, and I've no use for that now long-gone era of apps.

Those crashes you've mentioned I get sonetimes on my iPad air 2. The faders moving on their own when going from one sequence to another. The audio glitch you get from time to time. I've been beta testing for them for a while. While they've fixed some issues that ive found. Some others are still around. The crashes in the timeline when editing is a bitch. Exporting to the MPC software is still not there yet. I pretty much given up on sending them emails about fixes. I still use the app everyday tho cuz it's a good app which can be great if they listen.

I also have the Ipad Air, IOS 9.3.1 and iMPC Pro is very stable and runs great. I'm beginning to wonder if the crashes users are experiencing on newer machines could be caused by the differences in the processors. Retronyms, along with other developers sometimes do not have every Ipad model available for testing.

Hopefully the next release will correct those issues.

With their track record of updates I'll be on a Pro 3 by then lol .

The curse of developers who are always two steps behind current tech requirements .

Pro 3 Lol. But seriously some of the blame has to go to Apple for deliberately implementing hardware changes which force us to purchase new devices every few years.

  • I'm beginning to suspect this is indeed related to which device it runs on. It is unstable enough on the Air 2, but far more so on the Pro. I would keep testing (and I already have a mass of crash logs) but this would be an utter waste of time if Retronyms don't ever reply to my support request.

Retronyms is extremely suspect with the way they operate on iOS. They think their shit doesn't stink and tabletop, audio copy, is the best thing ever. Well guess what? We have a copy and paste universal coming here soon, and that is one less feature of theirs that has failed. Not only is it glitchy, it's not user friendly at all. Tabletop could be a great addition to AUM if it wasn't run by the same developers. I cannot stand the constant soundcloud integration pop up, Overpriced and overplayed kits, lack of every feature you can think of, and over complicated ways of making music. I don't do refunds, but If I did this would be the one. I can't believe AKAI would be this dumb and let the first Mpc app, (which Is a decent application) lack this many features. OOO I can play an MPC on my iPad I'm so hipster and cool I don't need any other app. Get that shit out of here. I couldn't create a song with this pos if I was on cocaine, pumped full of adrenaline, given six iPads, and told to get to work slave. I'm not paying tabletop shit for anything after the experience I had over the past three days. I think they added some convoluted way of routing your tabletop audio out to other daws recently. Idk and frankly could not care less, because I'm sure right after I purchase I'll find out nothing is compatible with tabletop.

You don't like it then ?

  • @carol what gave you that impression?

  • It's god gift to earth. AKAI has blessed our AppStore. Again this was a rant based on my app experience for the First AKAI MPC app. All it needs is some IAA. I'm not going anywhere near the new version.

I've been staying away from Retronyms since the first iMPC app. Since then I've read too many posts like yours on the MPC Forums. iMPC Pro has been much of a dissapointment over there as well. Retronyms are so half-assed and ass-backwards with all of their apps. Akai really couldn't care less about Retronyms' lack of skills because Akai is owned by InMusic, and they don't care about anything but making a quick buck.

Back in the day, Akai was a great company. Then they got cheap and didn't wanna pay any more royalties to Roger Linn who designed the MPC60, MPC60 II, and the MPC3000. So they fired him in the early-mid '90s, and the quality of MPCs began going downhill during the Jack O'Donnell acquisition. The last few hardware MPCs were seriously neglected in terms of OS and physical design flaws. Then came the software/controller MPCs. More bullshit, but less overhead for Akai. They just want your money. I learned that a long time ago and havent bought anything made by Akai since the MPC1000. Nowadays, I stick with the MPC2000 that I modded with an internal SCSI Magneto Optical drive. I know that machine inside and out. I can't be bothered with buggy software and iOS apps when it comes to MPCs. Plus it sounds a hell of a lot better sampling into a real hardware MPC. Software sounds too thin. It's got no balls.

A new Beta was just released with the following notes:

iMPC Pro 1.6.1 (20792) for iOS is ready to test

    What To Test:

    mixer midi mapping.
    regular usage with stability.

  • Does anyone else have issues in Audiocopy store?

Personally, don't think there are better quality samples than IMPC pro.

The app itself is something I do for fun to break up monotony or need inspiration.

    I love Tabletop.

Just not enough to use it.

Maybe some day IAA or ABUS again

wonder if it's possible to record 1 bar patterns now?

I'm testing that today. No crashes so far. Looking good on that front.

  • Whatever floats your boat. You could craft your own samples just by having a microphone :). I have used a cheap focusrite condenser forever on everything and if you know how to craft sound you can make it sound like a boutique microphone. I just got done loading all of my own samples into gravity on Kontakt. For example like me banging on this table in a rythmic fashion we have that sounds like a timpani when mic'd. :D.
