Crystal Synth XT sale

I saw the price on Crystal Synth XT dropped to $3.99. Haven't heard much about this. Is this just another synth? Seems to have a novel interface. I gather (from the Soundtestroom tour on YouTube) it's good for ambient pads? Anyone have experience with it?

  • It's ugly as hell, but capable and logical. Though it can make any kind of instrument, pads is probably it's strong suit, and I'd say it has a cold-ish retro character to it. I've had the VST on my PC for over a decade, and though I don't use it often, it's good for mixing things up sometimes— the breed feature is good for this, and I like to take sounds into other apps for further mangling. Worth a go at this price, I'd say, and the dev deserves some love for keeping at it so long.

  • I really like it too. But it keeps flipping on me upside down if i switch to other apps. Very nice pads but be careful with your custom made patches, they disappear for no reason.

  • I like it. It's a bit of a PITA, with all those sliders and yes, unattractive. The envelopes are a bit Absynth-like, and you can get some great sounds out of it. When you go to edit a preset, it forces you to make a copy first, which I find annoying. I have it on my desktop as well. Certainly worth $3.99.

  • I bought it for nostalgia sake after having it on my PC since, like 2000 or something. Back then there wasn't so much to choose from ... and it was free. B) It's very versatile, but by today's standards it can be cryptic. Definitely worth the price of a BigMac tho! And it can open up some new thinking about envelopes, and synthesis in general.

I bought it a good while ago based on someone here saying it was the most underrated synth in the app store. I think I got it on sale too, but maybe it was a dollar more. It's fugly for sure. I just use the presets (forgot you can actually tweak everything) the presets are decent. I'd say it's definitely a good value at $4 for shizzle.

  • Nice and different sounding. The mixing hybrid generated sound discovery is super cool.

That's definitely what drew me to it. There's a loop function?
