KQ synth on sale - opinions?
With the advent of many modular synths on the iPad (most recently moog 15) and the languishing of modular synths on the phone (pulse code modular), anyone have opinions as to sound and sound creativity for this app?
Comments
Me personally am having some issues soundwise: noises and other artifacts but they aren't in the presets so I guess it must be on my side. Gotta spend some more time tho
@mschenkel how would you describe the character of the sounds? Crisp, creamy, washy, typical, melodic?
It's AUx, Universal, and really well supported by the dev. Creativity and sounds are up to the user, as is the case with modulars generally. My only quibble is with the fx modules, digi sounding may not be what you want in that area but available off-board fx (AB, AUx, IAA, in-DAW) cover that stuff several times over. I'm using it as drum and percussion as much as lead...lots of fun. In terms of artifacts I found I had to look at my attack (and release) times, add a few milliseconds. Other issues had to do with my patching ignorance which is ongoing
Sounds like it's worth 2$
I'd already had several audio apps for the last few years, but never did much with them until about 4 months ago when I started my iOS music app buying rampage, that's finally tapered off now, thank Buddha!
This was one of the first ones I bought and I had no clue what to do with it. I think it was only $2 then. Wasn't wild about the few presets it comes with, and thought the whole modular thing was too intimidating. Now that I've got a much better idea what I'm doing, I've come back to this one off and on. I didn't even know what an AU was or why that was good a thing. Now I do, and this little app is most definitely well worth $2. And it's Universal!
Without a doubt. It's a steal at the normal price. The GUI might seem to some folks a bit drab but use-wise the patching functionality is very smart and effective (some modulars, the actual patching connectivity is a bit of a bother)
One funny thing, you can use emoji in your patch naming....
I'll test it better these days with proper equipment but so far I was impressed by the filters quality/smoothness.haven't tested fx and other stuff at all yet, since I'm trying to cover the basics without glitches or other issues(for example I'm having some issues to have an EG controlling properly the filter)
One thing that leaves me meh are EGs which range from -1 +1. This results in weird behaviors when controlling the filter
Student question: would the "B" type envelope module be a solve for this (I'm not clear on B type's uses)
one thing about kq synth is that on modstep, i only get audio coming from the left channel. on aum it has no issues.
Weird didn't notice til u pointed this out...working in Cubasis. A question for @Nerk_ @cblomert
Nope, the b type has the same range and act just the same.
@Littlewoodg & @perestroika : this is fixed in the upcoming update!
Cool cool cool. I like me some mod-ular in my mod-step!
Works well with AUM and its filters
Turns out -1 / +1 is the normal range for EGs. The B type had ramping that can change the rate, seems like that'd be nice for smooth or shapely rates of change for filters.
Yes, it is.
You can get some decent key sounds as well as some real black magic shit for deep hard techno house
