AU Request

Once upon a time Native Instruments released the Pro-52 VST and shocked the new world. Synths could in fact run as -plugins- on the desktop and be multi-instanced. Soon thereafter in their infinite wisdom they birthed the FM7, bringing gorgeous 6 operater FMness to this brave new world. And it was good, very good.

Therefore I beseech the c/c++ brethren of this -new generation- to be bold yet again. Let there be a 6 operator FM synth in the new world. That is, AU/iOS. Then let there be an AU SFZ Sampler...it doth not have to be multi-timbral.

According to Sebastian AU(X) will not work well for samplers due to the 500mb memory limit for AU(X) apps.

It just means there are more restrictions which can sometimes be a good thing. You can make some great things with the Korg Volca sample which has only 4mb of memory. 500mb is enough for great things to happen :)

Many, many great sounds can be accomplished in less than 500mb. There are gifted sound designers out there who have done more with less. Sebastian may have been referring to large multitimbral workflows in a given instance. What I'm looking for here is single instrument, per instance, per track.

  • There were many great samplers with memory measured in kbytes

I'm pretty happy with the 4MB on my volca sample. 500MB seems plenty.

Me too, I just sampled some of my favourite sounds from the SY85 (without effects or anything) to be used as raw material for the BM2 drums/synth. I ended up with ~6.5MB of 16-bit 44.1Khz mono samples which is more than the 6MB original ROM in the machine :)

So with some 'synthesis' options such as envelopes for pitch, filter and amp and lfos for modulation, some layering and effects there is no need for for 'huge' samples...

would it be possible to send me those files ? always love getting new material for my sample....

Enjoy! The samples are free for anyone to use and abuse :D

The filenames do not reflect the original wave-name on the SY-85 as I was too lazy to keep track of them all.

It all started when I was looking for a classic Yamaha sample-wave called "Itopia" so at least that wave should be correctly named among all the other pad/ambient type and bass & drum waves :)

Hopefully ModSteps Synth will get a 'sample oscillator' soon...

  • People were discussing bring Kontakt-type samplers to iOS as Au(x), when I read what I read, back then. I apologize to everyone & Doh = dog of house.

    Could SampleTank become an AU?

possibly. Though there is general iOS/AU skepticism among many of the desktop old guard. So this transition will be led by new thinkers.

Would be nice. So far, synths only.

  • KQ synth could add a sample module...the devs quite receptive. Might be worth dropping a few emails.

Then there's Sunvox. That would be a monster AU
