To excited not to share my External Batter(So excited I forgot the y)!!!

I now have an external battery to power an iPad rig. Its pretty cool. I will do some tests to see how long the battery lasts. But its pretty exciting to not be tied down to a power outlet with my iPad.

  • That is a sleek battery! How many mAh?

nice, so that y-cable provides power [edit: functionally, not charging] to the iPad, right? but does it also provide power to the hub and any attached peripheral USB devices? I've always used a powered USB hub so I'm confused how that y-cable works.

Its great to be mobile, now you've got to post a live jam out in the woods or a park!

  • Looks nice. Do let us know how long it lasts on a charge.

  • And the O!

  • @Hmtx yes it provides functionality to the iPad but it doesn't charge. If
I had one of the new CCKs I could also charge the iPad.

The hub is normally powered but since I'm using the y cable connected to the battery, it's also providing power to the peripherals through the hub.

  • I don't have a USB Y-cable, but before I had Apple's new charge & play cable adapter, I got the same powered-hub effect (although it does use up one of the hub's USB ports) by adding a USB A to A cable between battery and hub.

Cool to see another way to get the same result. Thanks for sharing the video. :)

  • A bit'o batter is better than no batter. Goes well with frying fish

Interested in the long-term performance you get. Cool :+1:

  • do batteries have souls

  • Only if they are wearing shoes. Hehe

  • Wait so will this work with my Stanley 500 amp jump starter and tire battery?!? Lol I have it out plugged into my hub and it is working, but does that mean I need a cord for the scarlet focusrite 2i2 to work with an iOS device? And yes @rhcball they have souls and you have triggered me good sir. They have souls. You have seen some batteries that were perfectly capable of leaving their case when phones came out. Now every phone released has imprisoned the soul of each and every battery. I want my HTC diamond back up battery back dock you sons of bitches. My palm pre one too.

  • When your battery dies though - it's being a real heel... Probably past it's cell-by date. Need something more current.

(I will crawl back into my small dark hole now  )

  • @TheMaestro said:
    K thanks @MusicInclusive ...

YW.... It's dark in here... My battery died in my flashlight!

  • Steve Jobs saw the soul of the battery through his famous LSD trips, but instead of liberating the souls, like Wozniak wanted, Jobs enslaved them in Foxconn factories.

  • Ok so far, I plugged in my axiom 49, and my fast track duo interface this morning. The battery was at 97%. Been a couple hours of off and on general messing about with a few apps, watched some YouTube videos and such. The battery now is at 88%. I think it should last a while.

  • Biggest question is what is your screen brightness set at? I can play for hours and only use about 20% if it's evening and I have screen brightness down to 25- 30% (battery powered with Focusrite 2i2 and Akai keyboard attached)

  • @hmtx finally someone who can respond properly, how do you get your 2i2 to respond. I have a USB 3 cck. I also have an external battery, or I have this big ass car starter that works as an amp in usb mode.

  • @Hmtx okay I found the damn power adapter to my usb 3 dock and it works with the new cck adapter. Thanks my man. I can start using this little red dragon again. I love this interface.

  • @Hmtx I always have my screen set lower than normal. When I was giving percentages I was speaking of the external battery not my iPad. Right now I do not have the CCK USB 3 so I can't charge my iPad while playing. And yea I think that Stanley would last for a few days.

  • If only my car battery would last for days I wouldn't need this :). I guess it has now paid me back for all the times I have had to use it in freezing snow, or any period of time in the past five years. My car battery is so fucked. I have to take it in again and get it looked at again or keep charging it up with good ol Stanley :disappointed:

  • So after having it a week, I finally had to charge the battery. I did not use any Phantom Powered Mics but I did Jam daily with it. I think I would be confident in its ability to jam for an entire weekend even with charging your iPad with it.

Now if I could just convert my FCB1010 to USB power, I would be all set. I guess I need to start looking for a USB foot pedal.

  • I always am surprised the FCB1010 requires such a beefy power cord. It would be nice if it could be swapped with a battery powered option, but not happening with that huge power port.
