Looking for an app to 'transcribe' handwriting to text.

I can't find app that does exactly this but audio to text or image to text would be great for transferring notes to evernote and stuff like that. Does such a thing exist??!

  • Only problem is that this app doesn't do the palm detection thingy

  • Oh. This looks like the best option

  • I'm not exactly sure what you mean by audio to text, but dragon dictation does a great job of that, you're should be able to read in your note and then send that to evernote. Siri as well (microphone button on apple keyboard). I believe evernote has image to text, doesn't it?

Is typing an issue for you? I don't mean that in any way but a question, I work with a lot of people who use assistive technology, although you could also be like me and just be a bad typist. Anyway, those tools I believe will do what you asked.

    Notes Plus works great.

    You don't need and stylus.

    iPad Handwriting Recognition apps:

  • Um, from your lips to god's ears?

Check this week's appstore free app Text Grabber. Basically does OCR (stands for 'optical character recognition')

These apps are getting better and better, but it's my experience they only work with very small chunks of text. ABBYY FineReader works a lot better, though that is not Ios. As mentioned, dragon dictation for audio to text because of the length limitation with the ios microphone dictation.
Curious to why I see Notes Plus mentioned here so much, how's it different/better than Notability or Good Notes? The only place I see it mentioned is here, and I trust here more than app store ratings. Need more of a justification than Procreate to pick up an Apple pencil :D

Notes Plus was one one the first apps I've bought. You don't need one stylus to work with it. But, obviously, it depends on you want to do. I work with a common Wacom Bamboo Stylus.

It does a lot of things. And for that reason is quite complicated compared with Notability if you want only one app to do everything. I've been using it almost every day and that's no problem to me, but everyone is different.

I recommend you to see the YT tutorials. I has great support (8 updates through 2015, three more this year).

Is one all-in-one app: Notepad, pdf and photo support, drawing with smart shapes, handwriting to text (previously IAP now free), voice notes, web browser, etc, etc.

One more time: it could be a bit hard for casual users, as Auria Pro does.

  • @fjcblanco thanks for that. As long as it's not S_nv_x level deep. Will check the videos.

  • Quick post, it's to transfer handwritten notes to EN for training i do so i can keep things organised and easily find stuff cause i've got notebooks left right and center and want to consolidate stuff. Got some lyrics and stuff i'd love to transfer to the ipad as well now i think about it. EN seems to work great for images so only really need writing to text. Cheers!

  • Yeah it needs to be image to text, dragon dictation works quite well but it would take a while to dictate and correct all the notes i've got!

Something that can take a photo of my notes and translate to text that works would be perfect; tried Textgrabber and couldn't read the text even zoomed in on clearly written words.

Enabled siri but i can't see the mic icon in note apps to dictate but i can use these for taking notes on the fly.

    Cheers!

You'll undoubtedly be correcting the results of any kind of handwriting recognition process.

True but dictating would probably take longer, was hoping there'd be an app that could accurately translate the notes to text to save time. Scanner apps might be an option.

  • I find dictating into Siri - whose microphone icon appears in every note-taking app on my iPad and iPhone - to be far more efficient, particularly after I learned the best way to speak and all the punctuation commands. I do it daily and copiously. In fact, it's been a bit of a game-changer for me. It takes practice. Only drawback is the potential for annoying others around you, but even whispering can work, after practice.

  • Issue was the keyboard app i use; switched back to default and got the mic icon. Works pretty well, will for sure be using to take notes going forward, possibly get notes plus for writing notes but i use evernote a lot so this will be a a lot more efficient. Cheers!

  • I use evernote a lot, but in conjunction with what I regard as the no.1 note-taking app on ios: GoodNotes 4. It puts NotesPlus in the shade, imo. Also does handwriting recognition (I don't use it for that.
