CCK Routing Question

I was just routing over USB w/ AudioBus + Studiomux into Ableton. Few weeks ago I picked up the Lightning to USB 3.0 CCK, along with switching up to iPad Pro 9.7. My intention was to (mainly) connect my LaunchControl XL to the iPad so I could map parameters of apps. That works just fine. My stumbling point is that when connecting the LCXL to iPad - I can't utilize the USB port out of the CCK and into the Mac(Ableton). I just wanted to confirm that it's not possible (and that USB Port is strictly for power/charging) - or I'm mistaken and something else is awry. If this workflow isn't feasible - please suggest to me a way to connect my Hardware to the ipad - and then still be able to route audio/midi etc., back into Ableton. I'd also be fine with not connecting hardware directly to ipad - but being able to do mapping from within Ableton - but when I try this, despite apps 'seeing' the LCXL - when I try to map anything, there's no recognition of the assignment. Appreciate any feedback ~

  • I don't have a LaunchControl XL, but in regards to routing the midi maybe try bypassing the CCK and just use your lightning cable then connect the LaunchControl XL to your Mac. Launch the studiomux server on the Mac and iPad launch Studiomux app and you should then be able to send midi to your iPad + ableton. You should also be able to pass audio with this configuration.

  • I'm not sure if I'm understanding you correctly so this suggestion may be irrelevant to you, but anyhow ...

In my personal experience, it is possible and workable to connect a USB hub to an iPad, and use it to both connect to things (e.g. laptop), and connect things to it (e.g. audio hardware).

I hope that made sense/was pertinent? If not then please disregard.

  • the lightening port on the Cck is just for power. sadly don't own a launch-control so no idea how to help you. But @hacked_to_pieces suggestion seems to be ideal. myself im acutally using a iconnectaudio4+ to connect both my ipad and my pc and have midi controllers show up on both. that being said its not for newcomers to routing audio or midi. took me a good week to understand how to use the interface. but i don't regret owning it now :)

  • Thanks everyone. Yes, I'm not quite sure why I can't get access to midi mapping - LCXL is class-compliant, so like you suggested should be able to map the App coming in on Studiomux. Just not sure what I'm doing incorrectly. I use LCXL to map many other Ableton plugins etc etc., and also no problem when it's connected directly to iPad with CCk. If anyone else can chime in out there.. still unsolved here. I probably could pick up the iConnect - but not sure merits the cost (for me in this scenario). Going to send a message to Isotonik - I use their XXL tool for the LCXL.
