Any way to quickly change between preset tempos in AUM/Ableton Link?
I use AUM for my live setup, and I'd like to be able to quickly change to preset tempo values on the fly. For example, let's say my first song is at 130 BPM, and my second song is at 105 BPM - how can I quickly get from the first tempo to the second?
The apps that I need to respond to the tempo changes are Ableton Link enabled, so maybe that will be helpful?
Comments
Why not pick the app that is the simplest to change the tempo in? Just change the tempo there. Everything else will follow.
You might find this thread to be helpful: https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/comment/231861/
I think there is a need for some kind of tempo control app on iOS, especially now with Link support growing at a good clip.
Thanks @lukesleepwalker, looks like that thread is exactly what i'm looking for
@lukesleepwalker were you able to find any solutions from that thread? I agree we need an app that's dedicated to this, but it'd be nice if I could get something to work in the meantime.
@theartwebreathe nope. I think @wim suggestion to just use the easiest to change in your workflow is the best that can be done for now.
Ok, thanks!
It sounds like you might be changing between songs on one or more of the apps? If so, then it may be that simply loading the song will set the tempo, and everything else will follow. If so, then you're done.
Or, it may be that the tempo of the newly loaded song will be adjusted to the Link tempo. That would be unfortunate. You might need to experiment.
Humm...
I just got home and did some tests. In all the apps I tried, loading a song didn't change the tempo. The songs loaded, but the tempo stayed at the link tempo. I guess this makes sense in a way for what link is designed to do.
So, yeah, stuck back with changing the tempo in whichever app is the easiest to do that in.
Normally you should do that using midi...so maybe with modstep you might do that (send the right midi tempo at the beginning o a new pattern, then, link and Aum would follow .
I think modstep can actually send tempo changes per clip. Not sure. Will check and see when I get the time. If it does work you could probably just set a couple dozen or so "tempo" change clips in a project and just trigger them as required.
Save your video making time, Director Gonecrazy. You promise us lots of videos. LOL
Here photos made already. https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/14045/how-to-sequence-ruismaker-or-isem-in-aum-by-using-auria#latest
Problem is my upload here is terrible lol. A 3 minute video takes hrs to upload. And sadly got sidetracked with real life.
Has anyone suggested this?

Loopy has this feature. The tempo is saved with the session and loads as the session loads. Loopy gives the option on session load of using the saved tempo or the Link tempo. Good stuff, per usual, from @Michael .
I think AUM does the same
I invested in their crowd funding campaign and have the hardware wearable metronome. They just added Ableton Link to the software and it's very good overall. Definitely usable in an iOS music setup for timekeeping, but not as a tempo controller.
Best thing I've found so far for tempo control is a combination of modstep scenes and patterning's manual control
Thanks @boberto and @OscarSouth for the suggestion. That metronome app looks quite promising!
It's got a long way to come yet but is indeed very promising, and the hardware is truly innovative and useful.
Agreed that it still needs some work but definitely on the right track...
So I tried "Metronome", (downloaded the iphone version on my iPad) but I ran into two problems - First, I couldn't get AUM to respond to tempo changes in Metronome, and second, when I set up a setlist with two rhythms and tap on the first one, it starts the metronome at that tempo, but then when i tap on the second one, it restarts the metronome but at the tempo of the first rhythm instead of the second (hope that makes sense).
Hmm it worked for me on iPhone 6 + latest ios . In Metronome I turn on link ,in AUM I placed imachine 2 when I change the BPM in metronome to 80 bpm AUM and imachine2 both change.
@theartwebreathe list the apps your using please.
@hacked_to_pieces i was simply testing with Metonome and AUM. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with running the iPhone version on the iPad (since there's no iPad or Universal version)...
I just tried on my iPad 3 and its working for me, I load AUM with ikaossilator and had Metronome app linked to AUM when I change the BPM in Metronome it changes in AUM and ikasossilator. By default Link is not enabled in Metronome and it has to be on for this to work .
different drummer sequences can automate tempo change via link.
I had that kind of issue with recording live a loop.
Sounds was awful compared to loopy. I need to test it again, but it won't be before next month...
Thanks for the reminder @crifytosp. I need to take a closer look at that! It isn't intuitive for me, but DD has some very interesting options in the progression mode.....tempo and mix per track, and global progression. Add sequences in and you can get different instrumentations and time sigs as well.....I think that's true with time sigs. And since this can all be midi plus Link....
