Led Zeppelin Wins
The title is self explanatory I guess.

Next trial: Pope Francisco demands AC/DC for "Hell Bells " intro.
Just goes to show that jury's are idiots.
Music has been around a very long time... A sine of time.
Do not mess with Lord Dragonpants.
This is definitely the biggest news of the day ...
It definitely seems like it was inspired by the Spirit track and that it had a degree of structural and stylistic influence. We are sorry to report to the post-hippie-blues rock fanboys that Stairway was not made in a vaccuum, shocking!
Sidenote: when you watch a late night show like Conan and they play a referential 'don't sue us' variant of a song it sounds a lot like the difference between Taurus and Stairway. If the notes don't fit yah gotta acquit.
...and in other, less important news, Britain wins!
i would like to say, that its most schocking to me that the lads of LZ (you know those millionairs) wouldnt admitt to the obvious and share some of the wealth, somewhere down the line, they must have become to believe they where originals.(english white boys)
Castle upkeep is ungodly expensive, you know.
Understatement of the day!
I hope that everybody knows that Spirit where the opening act for the LZ tour 12 months before they recorded STH
Sonata di Chittarra, e Violino, con il suo Basso Continuo uses the same chord progression and was written in the 1600's
I loved Spirit - their albums were fantastic! A lot of people are just now hearing of them. I got to see them live in a later incarnation as a trio - great show - they opened with 1984 and I was gone...
True enough (there are only so many progressions to begin with)but I am sure thats not what inspired LZ,and what did inspire them is obvious, shame on them for not giving credit(and€$)
That tears it. I'm stealing16th century pieces from now on.
I pride myself on the fact that many of the same notes in my songs have also been used by no less than the likes of Mozart, Kieth Emerson, Frank Zappa, Deadmau5, and Weird Al. I'll have to check if Led Zeppelin has used any of them. Probably.
If we start to check it out, I wonder how many songs include the first four notes from Beethoven 5th symphony.
The guy that first used the 12-bar blues progression could sue just about every musician on the planet.
... or maybe whoever came up with this progression
Regardless of who inspired who, nobody should be charged (not to say sued) for a chord progression, since most if not all of them are well established since, say, two centuries?
Sensible decision by the court. Hope it set a tendency, since music is old, but the music industry is relatively new, and it must not be sufocated by copyright trolls (something that already happens in the tech industry) taking advantage of stupid rulings by people who doesn't really know or care about music and musicians, like the Gaye state vs. Thicke and Farrel crap. (worth noting that the plaintiffs are usually people that had never ever wrote a single word or note).
…but they do own several vintage telecasters, all mint condition unplayed.
I can't walk through an alley without 'Fresh Garbage' in my head.
12 Dreams! I fell asleep to this lovely lp many a night.
In the 70's I had a Led Zeppelin 2lp bootleg record, and they did a cover of Fresh Garbage. Hmmm..............
It's good that it raises interest into the cyclical creation of music and also the not so cyclical flow of wealth.
Wins what? The booby prize or a Darwin Award?
Ah, the ole T-progression
I'll always prefer the D-Bm-G-A variant for pop songs
in the end the music is only a small part of the product as well.
Not trying to stir shit but I wonder if the folks who see this as a fair ruling see sampling in the same basic light.
Inspirational words, thanks for sharing them with us.. Oh , and the doggy in my pic here turned three yesterday, happy birthday to Ashton!
Happy birthday, Ashton!
