Midi Export / Export as Ableton Live Project
Hi guys,
I use Ableton Live as my main DAW.
I want to use my iPad mini (1st gen) to sketch out ideas while I'm on the bus to and from work, and then be able to continue working on them on Ableton once I'm home - How would I go about doing this?
I see that Korg Gadget has Ableton Live export, which really appeals to me. Are there any other DAWs that offer this? Or some kind of midi export?
Cheers x

You can also use AUM and audioshare to records loops, beat or more complex stuff, all sync to a BPM
But yep, gadget is a winner for that workflow!
One of the other korg apps does too. Can't remember the name offhand
I use Modstep for this. I can sketch on the ipad using ipad synths and then easily transfer the midi to Ableton. Usually I don't even export I just play it out by track and record the midi in Ableton. Then I can use Ableton to drive the ipad synths.
But yes iKaossilator has Ableton live export too.
@Carnbot
Does it have AudioShare support? Would this workflow be possible?
Yes I think that workflow could work. Modstep does support Audioshare into it's sampler but it's sampler is primarily designed as a drum sampler so even though you can use it for longer audio samples it's not designed for that yet.
It takes a while to get into Modstep though, it's not quite as easy to get into as Gadget but more flexible in the long run. I use Modstep with external hardware and ipad synths and record jam sessions into Ableton via the iconnectAudio4+ and AUM app. So I can start tracks and sessions away from my studio setup and then build on them when I connect to Live.
Not sure if this totally relevant, but one underappreciated feature of AudioShare is that it actually manages MIDI files (and plays them with simple instruments!). So you may be able to use AudioShare as a "bridge" to export MIDI files from various apps to a DropBox or email solution.
MultiTrackStudio has all kinds of crazy MIDI functionality, including translating (some) raw audio to MIDI!
You can export midi from cubasis.
You can also export MIDI from Nanostudio but it doesn't support MIDI out. You can only sequence its internal synths and samplers. Solid creation environment though. Supports iphone and ipad.
