Using Gadget with Modstep?
Hello everyone been ages since I posted anything here, I'd like to know if anyone is using Gadget in parallel with Modsfep using link do they work well together, I love Gadget but always feel like I want to put all those other fantastic synths in to the mix but haven't got a good way to sequence them in yet, any feedback welcome..
Comments
yes. we even use modstep to sequence the gadgets when writing a track. one word of warning though. modstep is a bit unstable when it comes to hosting some Iaa synths so the better combo is modstep + aum hosting iaa apps including gadget.
That sounds perfect I love AUM brilliant for jamming and routing effects so sounds like a really good combo
it is the only thing that would make it more perfect is if gadget had multi audio outs into AUM. but the stem export is decent enough for now....
Yes that would be jamming heaven, with AU on all sugar bytes apps. Thanks for the help..
@jackhead
No stability issues at all for me, using Modstep to sequence Gadget synths inside Modstep, singly or alongside a range of other synths, drum boxes, 5+ at a time. In my experience IAA implementation in Korg stuff, like most of the synths out there is solid, and I've had no need for additional apps like AUM to make things fly.
In your original post you mentioned using Link with Modstep and Gadget. That seems like a separate use-case, if you have Link going and are midi sequencing in both apps. This is something I've tried and it's a gas: set up a pattern (or a fully fledged track) with some instruments in Gadget using piano roll and scenes, and sequence one of your Gadgets in Modstep using its piano roll and scene, while perhaps sequencing a few other 3rd party instruments in Modstep (IAA, AU) or Modsteps own onboard Synth, and Sampler, with their own piano rolls and scenes. Moving between the two apps Linked allows all kinds of live play everywhere, while piano roll (and CC) sequencing in both apps on the fly as well, and Modstep will render as audio on its Gadget-assigned track a mix-down of everything going on in Gadget, along with rendering your other Modstep tracks as separate audio stems.
there are some IAA apps that flatout hate modstep. like DRC. it goes bonkers in modstep but works perfectly fine when hosted in AUM and sequenced externally by modstep. Also. AU's. when you load one on top of an already playing AU , modstep just completely shuts down sometimes. once again something that doesn't happen in AUM. Plus Aum has the benefit of having mix buses which is something i don;t think modstep has so you can use it for doing stuff like parallel compression or parellel fx. another awesome trick is you can load really long samples in AUMS file player and trigger playback from modstep. (currently modstep is lacking a sample player for really long files).
Atleast for me Modstep is more mature as a pure midi sequencer then for anything else currently. and the modstep+ AUM combo pretty much means i do not need a proper daw right now on my ipad. (which is sad since i bought Auria Pro and i never use it >,<)
Wow guys you really have sold me on getting Modstep I didn't realise you could render your tracks into audio and the possibility's sound amazing, thank you so much for your input guys, think I may have found that combination that I've been after since getting in to iOS music making (nearly 4 years now). Now I've got to wait till the weekend for pay day as I've got no money left the waits going to kill me
So AUM is also hosting Modstep in your example?
@gonekrazy3000
Yep DRC is midi-tricky- even in the background it seems to affect what's happening with other apps midi routing. I'm doing beta on DRC and trying as many midi set ups as possible to share data with devs.
I'm also doing beta with Modstep and am glad to report the AU instrument/FX stuff is sorted and working like butter...
Ooh. That pleases me greatly haven't installed the latest beta since I was mid project. Will backup and try the new version when I can
