Video..FingerFiddle, Like A Real Violin, Demo & Tutorial for the iPad
This sounds so good and has a very high degree of realism mainly down to developer Matthias Demoucron taking a huge amount of time and effort to get it right.
There have been several apps in the past that are of a similar nature to FingerFiddle in that they emulate real instruments in the way you play them, lots of them look great and have loads of potential but then fail to deliver on some key points like you cant record in to any other app, no Audiobus etc etc.
So they just drift off into obscurity.
FingerFiddle is Audiobus supported and does work as you will see from my demo, and more importantly Matthias is a dev who is going to keep improving his app on a regular basis and he listens to the users.
In the demo I run through the whole app and then do a bit of multi-tracking with Cubasis using a little piece I put together in Korg Gadget using the new Gladstone drum machine.
FingerFiddle also give you a huge amount of control on how you want to set your instrument up to play.
It has a great range of instruments to ply with too, although some of those are IAP’s.

I love the sound, it just looks to me almost as hard to master as a real violin, though
Thanks for the review!
Well the fact the fact that you can display all the notes and have the selected keys highlighted makes it a lot easier, but you are right it is hard to master, but the benefits of learning to make it sound like a real violin are huge
I've had this for a bit, it's quite fun to play.
Try running it through ToneStack, it sounds amazing, or Crystalline
Hmm.
I especially noticed this line in the app description.
It seems this is one of the very few physical modelling synths available for iOS.
Wonder how much under the hood goodies there would be if we got an UI to fully tweak it!
(I'm still having a blast with the 'synth-engine' in GeoShred).
I think it's great that you can now tune each string individually. This really kicks up my John Cale impersonations.
A good solid app.
Excellent stuff, love this app
this makes up for my roommate losing her violin, kinda.
Couldn't find on the App Store ,IAPs details. I also looked at the official site but nothing.
Anyone knows the prices and which are the extra instruments ?
Doug ,the performance was great!
Edit: I need glasses, the app comes with Cello ,the others are IAPs but price?
@korakios Classic Collection - adds Violin, Viola, and Double Bass - $11.99
Classic Collection with Mutes is available for an additional $11.99
You can also buy a single instrument for $4.99
FYI, I started a discussion about this when the app came out in March:
https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/12610/new-orchestral-string-playing-app-fingerfiddle/p1
@MatthiasD did some really nice demo performances there.
Matthias put a lot of care into this upgrade. For those who got it for free then, it is still free, but for others it is now $2.99 It is well worth it. Doug explains very well in his video all the new features and UI improvements in this update.
The biggest change is that it is now universal.
Thanks for the link!I will definitely buy it, just needed some info!
Very well conceived and equally well implemented. I've just scratched the surface of what it can do, but I have seen a lot of interesting potential with it, nonetheless.
Instant Eddie Jobson - cool!
Nice. Gotta get that.
