Can modstep do the cubasis keyboard thingy?

The thingy in Cubasis I'm referring to is the set of 10 "user-programmed" chords just above the keyboard.

In Modstep I know you can pull pre-configured chords from the templates browser, but can you somehow make and store your own chords in Modstep?

all the templates are mostly user created using the app. so yes. although i haven't done it myself.

  • I'm not entirely sure of the question, but you can definitely create your own custom chord layouts mapped to an MPD style grid.

  • Short answer is Yes you can

Last time I checked Cubasis didn't save them between songs (so once you've set them up, they only work in that particular track). Unless they changed that in the meantime, that's a big missed opportunity. I tried setting up the drum pads for use with Ruismaker, but I simply won't do it again for every individual song.

So I think Modstep does it better, in fact.

You could easily set them up, save it. Then make a copy each time you want to start a new project with those mappings.

Good advice. That's something I do regularly in any app once I get a configuration that I like. I set up everything how I want it, but with empty patterns or tracks, then save with names like "template - RuisMaker", etc.

The other important part is immediately after opening such a template to save with a different name, so that the template isn't updated by any auto-save. I always kick myself if I forget that step because then I have to go back and delete all the track or pattern data from my templates.
